That's a very good point Callistemon. I have one to one singing lessons and have never used a mike for the reasons you've stated.

A mike on a stand if one is used would be preferable because you stand back from it, singing just over rather than into it.

Rock choirs are fun and all over the country.

If you're having lessons they should be teaching you how to breathe and to project your voice, which will in turn help your lungs.
You shouldn't need a mike anyway.

Good point, I could just refuse the mike! Thank you.

Thank you, I Thought it might be just me. I think I will look to join a choir instead. Or just sing along to Alexa!

I would be very unhappy with that Mike too !

I noticed this at meetings I've been to, the committee share the same mike as well as any guest speakers and I certainly wouldn't do that.

Covid is still very much around.

Covid hasn't gone away so I'd be wary about that mic, Kateykrunch, because I have health issues myself. I don't think we can be too careful. My daughter's partner is having a tough time of it at the moment despite having had all the vax.

And I would freak out at having to sing solo in front of everyone! Yikes!

Just wondered what your thoughts may be on this. I am trying to build a bit of confidence (lacking after some serious health issues). Ive been finding excuses not to go places or try new things (holidays, classes, mini breaks away). So, I plucked up courage to attend a group singing lesson, (I have lung damage and singing apparently helps lung health) 6 people and 2 teachers, all lovely, did breathing exercise stuff and sang a couple of songs, but then people each sang a solo (apparently the class has been running a few weeks), but of course all just passed on the microphone to each other. I am too chicken to sing solo but it did make me feel uneasy the fact that the mic was so close to peoples mouths and just passed round. I wonder if I am being germ phobic. Appreciate any feedback (pardon the pun…microphone/feedback lol). Thankyou.
