This was rife here a few months ago. The person’s name and picture were put on Facebook to warn everyone. It stopped for a few months and then happened again with a different name and photo.
As Ginnytonic5 has suggested, I always state cash only on collection and serious buyers have been quite happy with that.

Thank you very much, Jax. I just couldn't work it out. I wonder if I should report them to FB. I don't know how to ban them but will Google it.

Apparently the scam works like this. After the scammer has made you comfortable with a promise of cash in an envelope and paying for shipping he or she will ask you to pay for insurance of the envelope that is being delivered via the delivery company as this is a requirement by them however the buyer promises that the additional amount is also in the envelope so you do not have to worry about money out of your pocket.

A fake email purportedly from the delivery company will be sent with an account number where you have to deposit the insurance money and included is a fake tracking number of the envelope that has already been dispatched.

If you refuse to pay the scammer will start pleading with you that they are going to lose money on the envelope dispatch as it can not be cancelled now and eventually they will resort to threats if all else fails.

Thank you Ginny. How do you block someone? I have ignored them so far.

skydancer …it’s a scam…just ignore the message and block the sender ( it’s rife on Facebook market place ) I always put No Couriers and cash only collection ..never send anybody your back details over the internet when selling something.

This has happened to me twice. I've listed a rather expensive piece of furniture on Facebook. I then receive a message from someone which reads: I explain to you you will receive cash in an envelope which will be sent via the UPS EXPRESS courier delivery service to your home address. The UPS company will send a postman to your postal address to pick up the item and drop off your money then ship to me afterwards to my shipping address.
This is obviously a scam. The person has not asked me one single question about the item. But I can't work out what the scam is? Can anyone make any suggestions? (I'm obviously not going to reply to this message.)
