Moving to Perth

Its proximity to Dundee gives good opportunities for music and theatre. The Dundee rep bred many well known Scottish actors, including Brian Cox; and the RSNO gives concerts in the Caird Hall. Perth has a lovely small concert hall with great acoustics. I've attended many events there while visiting Dundee. Buses run regularly between the two cities and - I think - there's a bus that stops at Nine Wells Hospital.
Of the two cities, Perth seems the more attractive place to live, but never discount Dundee which is a growing cultural centre, with its fantastic V&A museum.

I was in Perth WA earlier this year - Freeo too, GrannyGravy, loved them both.
Been to Perth, Scotland quite a few times and like it as well. I think I could happily live in either.

Casdon well it must be the area she was in she’s a great traveller and been in lots of strange places and she doesn’t exaggerate

I thought that too, I’ve got family there I didn’t recognise Perth WA at all from Bluebelle’s* granddaughters descriptions. I know it’s one of the safest cities in the world, and that Western Australia is prosperous compared with other parts because of the mining.

Out of curiosity I just looked up the population of Perth, Scotland. At 47,000 it does seem more of a ‘town’. I live in Urmston, in Greater Manchester and we have a population of 42,000. Similar in size then.

There was a post in 2021 from JMcD asking about Chester as the poster was contemplating a move from Scotland so think everyone was on the right track. I would agree with Grammaretto that Perth is a good location. It's not a big city, more like a large town, but there are plenty facilities in the area as Grameretto mentioned and I think the scenery is spectacular so plenty trips out and no real hills/mountains to negotiate!

I go to the pottery festival at Scone Palace each year. There's also the NT garden at Branklyn. It's an elegantly laid out town of just the right size.

Still plenty of independent shops there and restaurants. The best kilt makers in the world. A decent library and concert hall too.
Yes I could very happily live in Perth.
Frequent Buses and trains to Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness. Like Stirling, it's a gateway to the Highlands and the River Tay is just wonderful.

My father lived in Perth, Western Australia, but I guess there's no point my saying anything about it if the OP means Scotland?!

Oh. I'd assumed that it was Perth in Scotland not Australia that the OP was asking about.

There must be some bad areas one of my grandaughter is travelling and staying in Perth for a while and told me it’s known as the meths capital of Australia and there are times she’s been very frightened (and she’s a tough little cookie) however she’s now found a job for a few months in a nicer area before she moves on somewhere else
Every city has its good and bad areas but she said there’s a lot of unemployment and drink problems

Having moved recently, Perth is now our nearest town. I find the city centre quite depressing, so many closed shops and people aimlessly wandering about the worse for wear. In fact, we rarely go into the centre itself, there’s not much there that we want.

There’s a good range of cultural offerings, theatre, concert hall and cinema, and there are small retails parks, with The Range, Dunelm, Home Bargains etc. Tesco is the main supermarket (two branches) with an Asda and an awful Morrisons. There are two small Aldi’s and a Lidl. The town itself has M&S and Boots, though you can’t buy premium products in Boots.

The main hospital is in Dundee, 20 miles away, PRI offers a more limited range of services.

We don’t use public transport but there are always buses buzzing about so I think it must be ok. There’s a park and ride for access to all points further away such as Edin/Glasgow and so on.

Perth does have a flooding problem with the river Tay so be aware of that if you’re buying property.

Perth is a lovely place. Good choice. I can't suggest any particular area but just wanted to agree with you. Hope all goes well and you are soon settled in a suitable house.
