I keep seeing adverts for mascara for mature women that promise lovely long thick eyelashes, makes like Prime Cosmetics, Thrive and even Look Fabulous Forever. At the moment I use Maybelline, but honestly, are these more expensive brands aimed at us any better?

My eyes are unite sensitive so I only use mascara for special occasions but Maybeline is my go to brand.

Once I discovered Clinique’s Lash Power I have never bought anything else.

I use a Rimmel one in a maroon case. It doesn't clump or irritate my eyes.
Feel naked with out a couple of coats.

I've been on a mascara quest myself, especially as I've gotten older. I've tried a variety of brands, both budget friendly and high end. While I've found some great options, I've also learned that price doesn't always equate to quality.

I recently purchased Essence Lash Princess Volume Mascara from VYDT (https://www.dealsandstealstoday.com/view-your-deal/) after seeing so many positive reviews online. I was initially skeptical, but I'm so glad I took the plunge. It's exceeded my expectations.

This mascara is incredibly affordable, yet it delivers on its promises. It's easy to apply, doesn't flake, and lasts all day. Plus, it gives my lashes a noticeable boost in volume and length.

If you're looking for a great mascara that won't break the bank, I highly recommend giving Essence Lash Princess Volume Mascara a try. You can find it on View Your Deal Today or other online retailers.

My aged short lashes are nothing without a white base primer.
A primer really builds them up so it doesn’t matter what mascara I use after that 👍

Well said. 👏👏👏 It seems from the posts here that few give a damn.

No problem with mascara - or any makeup - so long as it is vegan. This means that not only is it NOT tested on animals, but contains no animal products. Maybelline, Max Factor and many others exploit animals in the most disgusting ways in order to sell into the Chinese market, which requires animal testing. Whenever I see a celebrity chirrup ‘You’re worth it’ about L’Oreal, my response is ‘No you’re not!’. Unless a product states that it is vegan friendly or carries the rabbit logo - PETA is a good benchmark - you can guarantee animal exploitation. This goes for almost all perfumes and expensive toiletries, too, including Clinique, Estee Lauder, Chanel and Dior. Simply read the label and decide how far you will go for vanity. Nothing is worth an animal’s suffering.

For many years I've got my eyelashes tinted. I know it only lasts about 4/5 weeks & then I use mascara for a while, then tints again. I love it, no remover to use.

I have used Benefit mascara for few years now and they all very good ..Bad Gal and the new Fan Fest give very good results .

Eloethan Sat 23-Dec-23 20:18:14

Nannashirl Are you talking about lash extensions, added false lashes or what? How long do they last and, roughly, how much do they cost please?

I am happy with the mascara I use but, for special occasions, I might like to try them.

Eloethan Sat 23-Dec-23 20:16:14

I've tried all the expensive mascaras - Lancome, Clinique, Clarins, Chanel, etc., and the much lauded Benefit mascara (which I didn't like at all).

Surprisingly I have found the most effective one is a very cheap mascara - Collection Faststroke Definition Mascara in Ultra Black. It really makes the most of my very fine and short eyelashes.

It is also a good idea to use a primer. I use L'Oreal Lash Paradise Primer or Max Factor False Lash Effect Max Out Blue Primer (the blue is meant to give a deeper black effect). The best one was a Maybelline primer but it seems to have been discontinued.

I use L'Oreal Eye Make up remover pads soaked in L'Oreal Eye Make up remover lotion for sensitive eyes.

Esmay

I use Max Factor , Maybelline or Revlon .
Ideally , baby oil will take mascara off nicely and is best followed with micellar water to remove the oily resudue .
If your eyelashes are looking sparse - use an old washed mascara wand to treat them with a tiny bit of vaseline as a conditioner .
And forget trying to read afterwards !

I do that with an old clean mascara brush, but I use caster oil. On another topic, hope you don’t mind Fflourie. I wanted to re ‘repurchase’ some lovely eye shadow that was Revlon, it lasted three years. I tried everywhere before I was told recently that they had finished completely, no more Revlon. Such a shame. It was a powder type, but pressed in a lovely fawny mushroom colour. Any body know of one similar?

I think these mascaras are the ones with lash enhancing serum in them. They do work to increase the length and thickness of your lashes and it can be quite dramatic. My eyebrows became so thick I had to start plucking again! The trouble is, as soon as you stop using them, your lashes (or brows) quickly revert to how they were before and the mascara or brow serums are very expensive.

I have sensitive eyes too, most brands make them sore but Benefit make a “mascara primer” which is enough definition on it’s own, the brush is great for separating and it’s fairly easy to remove. Not waterproof though.

gillyjp Sat 23-Dec-23 16:40:58

Fully recommend Victoria Beckham Future Lash and VB Satin Kajal Eyeliner - nothing else compares IMHO. They don't smudge and they last all day.

Nannashirlz Sat 23-Dec-23 15:08:44

I buy mine off qvc so if I don’t like I can return it. I put eyeliner on top then mascara so makes it look more or if I’m off to a wedding etc I get some lashes added I know it’s vain but I’ve worn makeup all my life and it’s my one join lol

Bazza Sat 23-Dec-23 14:49:27

I use mascara every day on my very blond but still quite long eyelashes. I used to buy expensive brands, but as I don’t have sensitive eyes I’ve decided that it’s just black or brown gloop, and as long as you’re happy with the shape of the brush it doesn’t make any difference. In my opinion anyway! I’m currently using Maybelline which is just fine.

Joseann Sat 23-Dec-23 14:40:39

I've just picked mine up.

Silly me, I'm sure I'd ordered brown! (Blonde hair, green eyes). Big dilemma, just use it over Christmas or exchange it in the New ayear? Grrr!

ANMI52 Sat 23-Dec-23 14:19:24

I tried the Prime cosmetics mascara and it’s no better, or worse, than ordinary on my aging lashes. I might give Lancôme a try after reading comments here

Jannipans Sat 23-Dec-23 13:38:19

I use Tropic - British made, no animal testing, and they try to be as ethically responsible as possible and support lots of charities worldwide - oh, and it does the job beautifully (for me anyway!). I am happy to be buying from a local lady too, so helping provide someone with an income locally too. It's a bit cheaper than premium brands; not as cheap as the cheaper ones, but I use all Tropic products now and am very happy with the results - in fact, when I have all my warpaint on, if people know or discover my age in conversation, they are genuinely surprised when they find out that I will be 70 next year!

Grandmama Sat 23-Dec-23 13:34:41

I've used Max Factor brown-black waterproof for years removing it with Garnier water/oil micellar cleanser (the one for waterproof mascara) then wash my face with CeraVe. I've never had any irritation or soreness. I have a navy mascara from MF but it's not waterproof - I'm out in all weathers so I feel safer with waterproof but I use a very light touch when applying.

jobieP Sat 23-Dec-23 12:57:55

Win, I have always dabbed cleansing cream on lashes, leave on while cleansing face then with a tissue either side of lashes slide off the non waterproof mascara.
Another way is to use a facial wetwipe.

Welshy Sat 23-Dec-23 12:08:11

I also use brown over black, as less harsh. My daughter recently bought me the Avon Lash Genius Multitask & Multiply Mascara and it's lovely. On offer for £7.50 at the moment. (No I'm not a rep) smile
