Sago

Seems it’s now available here but in different packaging and smaller bottles.

I buy mine from Amazon where there is quite a choice. The day cream I use costs £14.99 and used sparingly lasts about a month. I certainly couldn’t manage without it now and it was a Nurse who first suggested using it as my cheeks were crinkly dry.

I’ve only ever had one vanity in my life and that has been my hands so it’s horrible to see them now. And, unlike any other part of my body I can’t help but see them all the time sad.

Tops of my hands bruise so easy and look unsightly. I have only got to brush against something and I bruise. I have tried all sorts of creams and ointments to no avail. I asked my GP for advice and was told it’s due to age and thinning of skin. I now wear bandages to protect my hands. I don’t know which is worse the bruising or bandages.

I take marine Collagen and magnesium to help my hair and nails. There is improvement, but it takes about 6 months to see improvement.

Callistemon.
The wound healing ointment was fantastic Keeps the natural moisture in

I did use some of that; must get some more. I’ve also used zinc and castor oil, E45, Vaseline, Vitamin E oil. My neck and shoulders are just covered in scars.

And any cuts just never seem to heal
Vitamin C and zinc 🙂

I’ve used a Shakti mat for several years now and used to sleep with it next to my skin: even though it’s like lying on a bed of nails it’s so calming and relaxing. Then I found my skin had become so thin I couldn’t use it without covering it t with a pillow case or wearing a t shirt: or both. My worst area is round my neck and shoulders. And any cuts just never seem to heal. I make a point of moisturising my legs because I know that that’s where a lot of people have problems. I find Cerave very good and if the skin isn’t too sore use Elastoplast spray. If I put sticking plaster on it tears my skin when I take it off sad

Best check, though that fish oils are compatible with any medication!!

Good point I was in the process of tapering from steroids having been on a high dose

Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise
And take fish oils 🙂

Liz46 Sat 20-Jan-24 19:29:48

I'm on steroids too.

have you tried good quality fish oils?

Yes, good idea.

Use a good moisturiser every day. The dermatology Nuse Practitioner recommended Cetraban to DH but I think Aveeno is good because it sinks in quickly.

Do you have to take steroids or an inhaler, kittylester? Thry can cause skin to thin and become delicate.

nails - vit C for me, and leafy green veg[doesnt have to be dark green].
A physiotherapist friend eats more jelly[she says it is the gelatine].
Sorry, cant help you with the other two.

This might sound a bit of beat and not seen it recommended for skin problems or anything really but following my two hip ops the skin on my legs became incredibly dry and flakey
I used Elastoplast would healing ointment cheap and cheerful but was fantastic. Dont know why I tried it
It is very greasy and I used to put very little on when following a bath or shower

I took Perfectil for years in the hope my fragile nails would be strong and long, they are not!
My skin is dry and fragile however, the following has helped enormously Eucrin shower/bath oil, it is incredible, unfortunately I have to buy it in France or order online from a French pharmacy, it’s not expensive and lasts months.
I use this to shower and then plain old aqueous cream to moisturise.

I have osteoporosis and and have been prescribed calcium and vitamin D pills to strengthen my bones - I don't know what's happening to my bones but my nails are much stronger and my hair is now in good condition.

My shins are bad. I’ve only got to knock them slightly and I bruise. I’m waiting for a hip replacement and doing exercises that involve me getting hold of my lower legs.
Come to think of it, my arms are not so good either!

kittylester Sat 20-Jan-24 15:23:39

My skin is really fragile and tends to 'tear' very easily. Also my hair and nails are rubbish.

Following advice from my beautician (haha) I started taking Perfectil. Sadly this upset my stomach so has anyone got any ideas for a magical supplement that would help?
