Anyone on here in over 55s sheltered housing?

I am.
I lived in a fairly big house in Kent; my husband died and my add lives in Bristol. I was appalled when she suggested sheltered housing, it am delighted with it. I have made several friends- it is not a community per se, but we all look out for each other, and chat off and on. As there is no communal room in this particular complex, we tend to meet outside in the summer and in each others’ houses in the bad weather.
I have been here only 7 months and really appreciate the security and peace of mind it gives me.
I am a very active, healthy 75, have most of my marbles but am realistic about the future.

My friend lives in sheltered housing which is ran by the local authority. It is a small block of flats.
It only has a visiting warden nowadays and she has an ‘emergency’ cord which she has to pull by 10 o’clock each morning so that they know she’s safe. She can give them notice that she won’t be there. It has shared laundry room and shared bin room, which are probably her least favourite parts.
It does have a common room which is only occasionally used.
Over the years the social side has varied with the changing population.
