What gimmicky gadget have you been sucked into recently?

This morning I nearly bought a plastic scraper that would do a million things, then a lint roller that would restore my carpets, after lunch a foundation popped up on Instagram that would change my life.
I have resisted them all and saved about £60.
What gimmicky widgety stuff have you purchased and was it good?

My salad spinner is brilliant for spin drying hand washed 'smalls'.

When we last moved house and cleared the kitchen (quite large) we found we had three chocolate fondue sets. We’ve never had a chocolate fondue.

😂😂😂

Grammaretto - I love my Magimix but agree with you about the herb scissors - fortunately mine were cheapos from Morrisons. I had an onion slicer which was a waste of space too.
I was given an electric meat slicer as a wedding present 50+ years ago. That went in bin (with first husband) smile.

I am a great one for gadgets and have bought many over the years, some of which I regret to say, I used once or never used at all! A few spring (ruefully) to mind:
A soup maker-found it too much faff, a pan and a stick blender is all I need (or a tin and a tin opener…!)
A brownie maker-too small and inconsistent baking.
A large and heavy (and expensive) grill.-too cumbersome, gave it to charity and replaced with a model similar to my previous, much used George Forman one.
A cake pop maker-underwhelming!
An omelette/snack maker-Why? I rarely eat snacks and don’t much like eggs!
So now I am very careful about what I buy. I HAVE bought a smallish air fryer recently but have found it very handy for chips/burgers/snacks when my GC come round. I occasionally used it myself (great toasted hot cross buns!)
My most used gadget? Without doubt my beloved (and twenty four year old) Magimix food processor. I use it very often, even more than my longed for KitchenAid mixer (which is only used occasionally for large bakes-not often as I live alone) I sometimes think it approaches ‘white elephant’status but was too expensive (and is too beautiful!) to let go!

A spiralizer, not cheap but I never managed to do courgettes or anything else without having to clean the entire kitchen afterwards. I gave it to my daughter but I think she quickly passed it on.

We've just ordered a combi microwave as our 15 year old Panasonic started to go up in flames.
The grill on our built in oven no longer works and we might abandon it altogether.
But gone are the days when I want to spend hours in the kitchen prepping food.

Does anyone use their George Forman grill?

I forgot I had one until now! 🤣

I don't think it's still in a top cupboard but I could be wrong ....

DH has twice bought one because he thought they would be healthier than frying . We gave one away and I only use the second one to make toasted sandwiches .
I love my electric carving knife but the flex gets in the way because I am left handed . One with a central flex rather than one one side would be better .

HousePlantQueen Fri 22-Mar-24 12:24:19

Oh I have lots!

Best thing I ever bought my small, very cheap airfryer
Second best kitchen gadget small compact omelette maker

In the back of the cupboard, waiting to be got rid of
juicer which takes too much cleaning after use
George Forman type grill as we don't eat meat, ditto electric carving knife
Sandwich toaster as I try not to eat too much bread
Breadmaker, as above

I'm about to buy a bag a chicken manure for the garden. Should I?
Someone whose leeks are huge, loves it.

Be warned it stinks, but so does blood, fish and bone which I use!

I had to stop putting blood, fish and bone stuff on my garden because the blinking dog used to eat it.

I'm not making as much use as I'd intended of my sandwich toaster. I tend to have a very light lunch and this seems like too much faffing around, although the toasties are lovely when I can be bothered to prepare them. Now I've made myself hungry!

Nope!

We use ours outside in the summer, much better than lighting a BBQ.

My son wanted a toasties sandwich maker thing "but not one with a plastic catch or mounting that snaps" I did find one eventually but it was very expensive.

There is a good one in Australia though if anyone is interested!

NotSpaghetti Fri 22-Mar-24 09:50:06

I was gifted a pasta maker thing.
I got rid of it in 2020.
Now my husband wants one. 🙄

Granmarderby10 Fri 22-Mar-24 09:47:03

I have honestly been tempted by on of those “proper” deep fat fryers and I have a cooker hood extractor and a kitchen extractor so…..but no room for one.
But I do love real chips and once made some doughnuts and injected jam into them, very yummy and squashy😋 and another time made banana fritters they were double yummy 😋😋 with cream poured over them. This was in someone else’s gadget though. Lots of oil filtering and decanting required to keep the oil pleasant. Dream on

Callistemon21 Thu 21-Mar-24 22:57:22

Oh yes, all those.

I do use the salad spinner except if it's a small amount.
The juicer's in the top cupboard.

JenniferEccles Thu 21-Mar-24 22:49:37

Gadgets I have bought and got rid of over the years…
An electric carving knife
A juicer ( I prefer whole fruit)
A sandwich toaster which was a pain to clean.
A salad spinner

One I haven’t succumbed to is an air fryer. Apart from the huge ones it seems that food has to be cooked in batches, whereas I can put everything apart from vegetables in my oven.

merlotgran Thu 21-Mar-24 20:00:44

The problem with the George Foreman grill is it really needs an extractor fan so I only use it if I’m not using the hob as well which is a shame because the drained off juices are perfect to go in a sauce.

MissAdventure Thu 21-Mar-24 19:45:27

My daughter used hers quite a lot, and looked up menus and tips, too.
She said it made lovely toasties.

Curlywhirly Thu 21-Mar-24 19:43:50

Use my George Foreman a couple of times a week to toast sandwiches - most sandwiches are nicer when toasted! Have to admit though don't really use it for grilling meat/sausages as it's such a bugger to clean 🙄

Auntieflo Thu 21-Mar-24 19:36:09

Gadgets I use and love:-

Window Vac = Karcher, brilliant
George Forman grill = use it for toasted sandwiches, great.
Kenwood Mini Chopper= super little gadget.

Waste of money = Crimpit. Still in a drawer.

But, I do get sucked into those You Tube recipes, just three items? They never are, and such a waste of time trawling through them.
Will I ever learn?

A salad spinner. It was very useful but took up so much space in our very restricted kitchen cupboard-( major cupboard reorganisation required after each use) I eventually gave it away.
