I would get work done on my house, employ a cleaner and gardener and put money aside in case of future needs such as a nursing home.
After that, I would share the rest out between my three DC.
If it was an enormous amount, like some Euromillions winners, I would give to extended family and favoured charities.

We would buy a nice bungalow in Norfolk and give the rest to the children

MissAdventure

Contact some local charities and ask them what would make a big difference for them.

Then simply buy it and donate it.

👏👏👏👏👏

I have a fondness for donkeys and would love to do something like open a sanctuary for older ones or rescue ones that had been I’ll treated.

I'm fortunate enough not to need more and so would give it to the children and aim to live long enough to avoid inheritance tax (7 years)

Eat out at top restaurants, buy designer clothes, wonderful jewellery and employ people to do my domestic chores. Seriously just do whatever makes you happy, you are in a position that many others would love to be in but can only dream about. Enjoy!

How about rescuing some ex battery hens?
Build them a beautiful home, and set them free to roam around and relax.

MissAdventure Sat 25-May-24 13:36:24

Good idea, Namsnanny smile

I expect there are loads of local charities who would benefit greatly from a good injection of cash..

More Holidays....camper van....upgrade car....eat out more....tears DC and GC more

Namsnanny Sat 25-May-24 13:28:27

MissAdventure

Maybe a camper van, for weekends away.
Something bright, colourful and cheery, so people knew we were coming. smile

A converted ice cream van would make an entrance? Comes with it's own musical 'Hello'😄

I would instantly buy a house close to South coast where I could walk along near the beach everyday, i have wanted to do that for years but never have. I have stayed close to where adult children and grand-children are but with a new house near the coast they could come to see me whenever they wanted to. i would set up Direct debits to food for families in poorer countries, cancer work charities, and help for poorer families in areas of poverty in London and surrounding areas.

Further to comments on a similar thread; after sorting out paid for homes for my adult children, and donating to small charities which make a difference, I would spread my money around by employing people to do nice things such as put fresh bedding on my bed every day, clean my house, fresh flowers, maintain my garden, drive me to the airport. I could keep quite a few people generously employed that way!

Travel.
I have a bit of wanderlust still, I would like to move to a house in the same locality with parking and a nice garden, it is a big ask here and as we no, longer have a mortgage one of us is not keen…….

GrannyGravy13 Sat 25-May-24 13:03:47

Definitely buy a holiday home (put it in AC’s names) in the U.K.

Buy a hybrid car.

Set up monthly standing orders for all GC to purchase Premium Bonds.

Standing order to Local Hospice.

Depending how much was left over would probably give each AC some money to pay off some/all of their mortgage.

What would you do with it?

Don’t need or want to move, considered buying a house to let out but don’t want to be landlords. Nowhere we travel to that has given us the want to buy a holiday home (just how often and for how much longer would we use it anyway?)

We are both fairly quiet people who live quiet simple lives.

Planning to give large amounts to adult children, new kitchen, new car.

For now, the rest will sit in savings account but what would you do with it?
