Narrow gusset in knickers

I've always bought M&S knickers but lately am finding the gussets far too narrow. Can anyone recommend decent knickers that have decent coverage but don't look like "granny" knickers. I'm a size 8-10 but I don't want thongs. I want proper coverage to bend down gardening in without constantly pulling them from where they've ridden up.

But with the period pants for oops moments do you squelch and put on fresh ones or do you not notice any squelch? Asking for a friend.

Totally agree. I had a persistent cough and wear mini pads all the time and yes they hang over the edge of the gusset . Irritating.

Just fold the pad in on one side, so it sticks to itself, still sticks to your brief on one side and either end too. I find that works for me. I use the Tena lady long panty liners, which are very absorbent and feel comfortable in the narrow briefs.

Asda full briefs are great and much cheaper than M&S.

I thought it was just me thinking that the g_______s in M & S knickers had shrunk! Their shorts styles aren't much better.

I have some cotton shorts style ones from a few years ago and the unmentionable word is definitely wider!

I'm wondering who is designing them?

I thought it was just me! I give my M&S gussets a good few tugs across before I put them on but I still have to fish them out of where they shouldn't be. It's embarrassing because I lead the warm up exercises at our karate classes and, even though I face the class, there's a wall of mirrors behind me so everyone can see any adjustments I have to make! I still do it though!

I'm wondering if they've cut the back of the pants higher as well as making the gusset narrower. I don't have a particularly generous bottom but maybe that would add to the rise up! I might try the shorts style pants tonight at karate and see if that helps. I think there might be a pair at the back of my knicker drawer.... I'll report back! 😂

I like Stripe and Stare knickers. Really comfy and lovely colours too

I found Wirapa on Amazon. I have their 'boyshorts' very comfortable cotton and a wide gusset

GrauntyHelen Tue 21-Jan-25 12:23:00

I'm another convert to Wirapa much better fit than M and S

Ktsmum Tue 21-Jan-25 12:20:45

Another vote for Wirarpa, I tried them after reading a similar thread, and can recommend, they are comfortable and wash very well. Not the prettiest but wonderful under trousers.

I stopped buying M&S knickers for the same reason. Very narrow gussets. So I bought some from Bon Marche. Very pretty and comfortable gussets. Ooh I said gusset twice. Sorry Miss A if you have come over all faint !,

Ohhhhh! Who knew there was so much to discuss regarding the subject of gussets.
Fascinating stuff. If my gusset if uncomfortable or even a bit twisted, I'm like a bloody, ratty wet hen. 😉

For active things like table tennis and fell walking I wear period pants made by Modibodi. They were recommended by a lady on this site. So much more comfy than panty liners and less wasteful. You can get pants for light or heavy flow so light flow pants are perfect for a small degree of stress incontinence.

I used to buy Bodas - cost a mint but lasted years, covered modestly and prettily. I don't want 'exposure', or lacy, jewel etc - just neat to sit under clothes without showing, comfortable fit and a bit of slip so clothes don't drag. The Bodas ones I bought (eyebrows up - in 2012) are finally falling apart (so they were cheap in terms of price per wear) and I am not finding anything in the space between tart and frump - ideas?

I use M&S 5-pack full briefs in cotton Lycra. They aren't very exciting to look at but they fit and the gusset is plenty wide enough. (DH - mid-80s - has pretty much stopped looking now anyway, at me or anyone else, so not a total disaster if I don't look like a lingerie model any more!)
What I wish would happen is that some bright designer could come up with a pair of full briefs with edgings & seams that don't end up rock-hard after a few washings!

Definitely Sloggi for me, too. Not the cheapest, but in my experience they last well and are very comfortable.

Wirarpa, I’ve got no hesitation in recommending these from Amazon, they are cotton, but the most comfortable and they hold your tummy without feeling like they are supposed to. (Wish I was more eloquent ) if you go and look at them you will see they sell 10,000 s of them so it’s not just me.

Kim19 Mon 20-Jan-25 15:39:15

Sloggi for me too......👍

Esmay Mon 20-Jan-25 15:39:07

The word gusset makes me really laugh !
I wore some Primark knickers the other day and felt as though my nether regions were being slowly cut in half .
Otherwise it's big knickers from Yours .

Soozikinzi Mon 20-Jan-25 15:28:58

Another vote for sloggi here ..

The last time I was in M&S I found myself standing in front of a sign advertising Period Pants.

My mind wandered off to Downton Abbey and even Jane Austen before the penny dropped!

Brilliant!
Apparently, you bleed straight onto the gusset with period pants. Can't see them catching on; too risky.

The kinds of periods I had it would have looked like a crime scene😲

That goes for me too......thank goodness for surgery (I can't spell the proper term!)
