Narrow gusset in knickers

I've always bought M&S knickers but lately am finding the gussets far too narrow. Can anyone recommend decent knickers that have decent coverage but don't look like "granny" knickers. I'm a size 8-10 but I don't want thongs. I want proper coverage to bend down gardening in without constantly pulling them from where they've ridden up.

I told a saleslady in M & S the other day that the gussets were too narrow in their cotton lycra pants. I was looking for some cotton only ones in the hope that they would be better, but they do not stock many. I know I can order them but do not live that close by

Wedgies, gussets - I've come over all faint!

For me it's the word PANTIES....Oh! makes me think of dirty old men. 😶

Thanks Scribbles. I think I shall opt for the large. There’s nothing worse than knickers being too tight & cutting in 😫. Or showing off my lumps & bumps more than I have to 😂

Wirapa ladies, can you advise on sizing. I am a size 12-14 and seem to fall between a medium and large. How has the sizing been for you?

I'm somewhere between a size 14 and a 16 and found M&S size 14 knickers too tight so I bought 16 which were quite 'spacious'. The Wirapa size L is a perfect, close fit on me, snug and comfortable and invisible under close-fitting trousers.
I'd suggest, if you're nearer to a 12 than a 14, opt for the Medium. If not, get the Large.

I prefer the word knickers, panties is surely from the US, and never call them pants, where I was born and brought up in Lancashire pants are trousers.

It's strange that I too dislike the word PANTIES but don't mind at all the word PANTY as in pantyliners!?!

I also have discovered the wear two pairs trick. Bought from M&S .One pair is a larger size, 2 sizes up for me- and the second pair is a stretchy pair, more like a shorts style, called Bodyform or something. They are a bit like gym knickers I suppose. It keeps any pad in place and they feel very secure.
You can always get some of the larger sizes in the sale.

Can I add 'knickers' to the list of hated words.

I love the word Knickers! It's a fabulous, quirky English word.
The word I hate with a passionate loathing is .. ...PANTIES!!!!
Ohhh, it gives me the Willie's.
Connotations of 70's Carry on films, which I absolutely loathed. 🥴

I’m quite relieved to read this thread. There was I thinking that my in inbetweens has just got wider. To put it politely.

Ohhh Bazza! I had to read this twice, I thought my dirty mind had read it wrong, but then realised that you were being a little bit naughty!😆

Hi Ladies.
I thought I’d just sent a picture of an add I’d seen today in a magazine. However it isn’t on here so goodness knows who has received a picture of a ladies bottom wearing wide gusset knickers ! The company is” Independence “ Ltd .free delivery.
They look nice and are 100% cotton.

Asda full briefs are great and much cheaper than M&S.

But the elastic is often sewn too tight. 😟

I think comfortable knickers are important, men’s underpants hardly ever come in uncomfortable varieties. Some women’s knickers look as if they will be torture to wear. And uncomfortable ,too tight, or inappropriate knickers can lead to UTIs.

MissAdventure You do make me laaugh. ❣️

I really like the primark pants they're like shorts but now too long a leg..got them in black n white and beige..and they're nice and stretch and high waisted..

I used to love M&S knickers but have to agree that their design has changed and they have become less comfortable, especially now I need to wear a pad, I have managed to find various styles in the supermarkets, Tesco, Asda and Morrisons, that work well for me

This morning picked a rarely worn pair of knickers as they are navy. They are from Peacocks. Out of curiosity I measured the gusset against an M&S pair and the Peacock gusset was almost twice as wide.

I always wear Sloggi. They are made from cotton and there is nothing skimpy about how they are made.

I buy them online direct usually when there is an offer on and they last for years.

This. I'm always on the lookout for special offers - they are expensive, but last for years and YEARS. Oh, and they're so, so comfortable...!

As knickers are something that (most) Gransnetters wear I feel that this thread is Gransnet at it's best smile
I put that most Gransnetters wear knickers because a few years ago, during a similar thread, it turned out that a few didn't wear them! shock
Does anyone else remember that?

Sloggi used to be advertised as the most comfortable knickers in the world, as far as I can remember, I have worn them for years. They also don't look big when drying outside on a clothesline. They do give excellent coverage though and gussets are a sensible width.

I suffered from Lichen Sclerosis for about a year and going commando was the only way. I tried nix from Damart, comfy for the first 5minutes then drooped like woollen bathers did in the 50s. G..........around my lower thigh. Good for dusters though!!

Sarahr Tue 21-Jan-25 21:53:36

Try Sainsbury's or Tesco knickers. They are usually good.

Don't have a gusset problem, length, width or breadth.

I like high legged, no VSP fom Tesco.

Having had 2x C sections and a hysterectomy cut on the same bikini scar, resulting in an "apron".
Gussets aren't a problem but where the top comes too, I hate waist/ full knickers.

Each to their own💕

I have had two C sections also, but they were both done with the old classical scar which starts just below the belly button and goes down to near the pubic hair level. After that I have always preferred the high waisted granny style, even when I was skinny because the bikini ones rubbed against my scar.
Never had bother with the gussets though

Babs03 Tue 21-Jan-25 20:54:50

Sloggi are good knickers with a wide comfortable gusset. A bit dear but worth it imho.
And I buy the big knickers from M&S, no silly briefs or high cut ones. The gusset on these doesn’t seem too narrow.
