Do you use a parking app?

I have the two most commonly used by our closest towns. I’ve stored details of my car registration and a credit card on them.

When I am in the car park I look to see which app I need, open it, it asks me to confirm I’m in car reg whathaveyou and using credit card ending on n such and such four digits. I confirm, tap in the parking area reference number, and the amount of parking time I require.

The app adds 10 or 20p to the parking fee, charges my card, and off I go. It sends me an alert when I am near the end of my time, so I can decide whether to pay more or return to the car.

I use a third online company, but it’s only for a rarely used car park, so I just store their number in my phone, they have my car reg and card details, and I phone to buy the parking.

Presumably different car parks use different apps. I had assumed one would cover all. Silly idea!

I should say with RingGo (one of those I use) there is a pay at the end of the parking facility (for if you don’t know how long you’ll be) but I’ve never used it, as our fairly provincial car parks charge in large-ish blocks of time.

And yes, annoyingly, they aren’t all the same. RingGo is most common for my needs, but one local town has its own, and another uses two different apps!

I use Ringo as it’s the app most used locally. It’s a pest because the app is forever chucking me out then demanding I provide a new password. The town car park only takes Ringo or coins, it won’t accept bank cards or notes and since Covid the buttons on the machines have lost all their markings because the antibacterial cleaners they used dissolved the inks - I often see bemused tourists trying to work out how on earth to pay!

We do sometimes visit areas that don’t have Ringo and then you have to download a different app and set it all up, which is also a nuisance. There was supposed to be an app coming which would bring all the different parking apps under one umbrella but I don’t think that’s happened yet.

I use Pay by Phone - easy once you’ve entered/saved your details - I’ve also got the DDs cars saved on mine along with photographs of your cars with number plates visible.
I know you can pay by card now, but previously at £3 an hour you’d need a fortune in coins!
Another advantage is the reminder to your phone when your time is about to run out - far easier than having to run back to the carpark to buy some extra time.

Our area uses Mi. Once set up it's easy to use. If you overstay you can top without returning to the car.
The extra 20p mentioned earlier is if you want a reminder when your time is nearly up.
I also have RingGo, Glide and JustPark set up on my phone for when we are in a different area. They all work in a similar way and once set up are easy to use.

I have several different parking apps and they are easy to download and easy to use. Our local one is Parking Operations. Basically you can store your car number in and card details it is so much easier than the car park machine. You can extend your parking time if running over. Give them a try. If I can use them anyone can😂.

No. And it’s stopping me from going places unless I can pay for the car park with cash or my credit card as my phone is really just emergencies only and I don’t have banking details on it as I don’t think it’s secure enough.

Different apps for different car parks, it is worth downloading a few or researching which app you will need before you get there as it can sometimes be difficult to download in the car park if the signal is poor.

I love RingGo.
No queuing, losing tickets, faffing with coins and cards in the rain. Reminders when the time is coming to an end, with the option to renew. Easy to add other vehicles to pay for them as one-offs or regularly.

I also have KwikPark for use in a local city car park. It recognises the car on entry and the barrier opens. Simply drive out and the charges are applied. Email confirmation is immediate.
