Yes, where on earth do they disappear to?

Back into the cloud where they came from.

I have stopped posting on GN because when asking for advice once, a response was "well, you obviously don't think like the rest of us, so what's the point"?
Faced with remarks like this, yes, I asked myself, what is the point?

Maybe they read the replies and dont feel the need to add more or reply to those replies or it is just a conversation started by AI or Gransnet to increase threads. It seems to keep people active on here so I dont see a problem.

I wonder why these AI bot posts are generated in the first place?
I must be honest, those really long ones with limited or no paragraphing leave me cold - I really can’t be bothered to plough through them most of the time; and when I have, wish I hadn’t 😂.

They’re mainly bots btw AI generated and I’m getting good at recognising the speech patterns.

You’re all figments of my imagination, I created you to disagree and agree with me to keep me sane. Not sure my experiment is working, I’ll give it another week then prepare to be extinguished.🤪

My illusions are shattered- maybe I'm not even real?

Maybe none of us 😂😂😂😂

Added to that, I do see some posts on here on different threads, where lots of people think it is ok not to say thank you for something, or not to send a friend a birthday card or something.

fancythat Sun 16-Jun-24 12:27:54

Some seem to be bots/trolls.
There used to be trolls before bots appeared. So no reason to think the same thing doesnt still happen.

But yes, there are an increasing number it seems of posters asking for advice, and then never replying.
In some of these cases, they are posters who have posted on occasion on GN in the past.

I just wonder whether people are on the whole are more sensitive than they used to be, in general.
And then get frightened off by some of the replies.

Wyllow3 Sun 16-Jun-24 12:22:42

The timing suggests they originate in the USA? Is there a way we can tell the difference between a bot and a troll?

petra Sun 16-Jun-24 12:14:50

They are not trolls. Trolls are real people. These are BOTS generated by AI.

Georgesgran Sun 16-Jun-24 12:09:25

I think the long-winded posts, usually sent in the early hours are trolls.

However, I don’t know why those asking a question or seeking practical advice don’t respond at all to the many helpful replies - bad manners?

OldFrill Sun 16-Jun-24 11:57:26

Maybe they read the responses but don't feel the need to respond.

blue14 Sun 16-Jun-24 11:53:04

Me too!
So many of their problems seem quite serious and yet no response.
It's very disappointing and I don't understand it.

Galaxy Sun 16-Jun-24 11:50:33

If it's a long complicated family situation from a new poster who never returns they are undoubtedly trolls. What the point is of trolling in this way I am less clear.

Cossy Sun 16-Jun-24 11:48:58

I’m confused, (it doesn’t takes much), about GNs who post asking for advice and then appear to disappear into oblivion never to be seen or heard from again. What on earth is the point?
