Hi 4 weeks post op for 2nd hip replacement here and I'm doing great. Have to stop myself from doing too much at the moment but I am walking mainly without support, I just take a crutch or stick for outside walking because I worry about slipping. My head wants to get down and do some weeding and cupboard cleaning but I am making myself wait until the 6 week check up to see what I am allowed to do. Biggest issue for me was sleeping, I am used to sleeping on the operation side so it has been uncomfortable. Once you are over the first couple of weeks, it is just a question of letting yourself heal slowly. The pain level is actually quite managable. You will be shown how to get about on crutches and given lots of advice by the physiotherapists and handed plenty of pain relief tablets to take home with you.

Unless minds and times have changed, it will be 3 months before you are allowed to kneel but each surgeon is different.

Lyndylou I weeded my garden pots today and managed to pull some weeds up from cracks in the patio by sitting on a garden chair.

Hi Charleygirl5 Yes that is what I expect to be told, but you are right, it does vary between surgeons. In fact some of the advice I have been given this time has been different from last time, 5 years ago.

That's great Callistemon213 I have had some young scented geraniums delivered today and managed to plant them with the aid of a long handled bulb planter and a litter picker! I have also just purchased some shears on extendable handles to tackle the perennials that need the Chelsea Chop and that is working well. That's the problem with gardens, they don't stop growing while we recuperate!

How can I put travel socks on when I don’t think I shall be able to bend enough! After knee and hip ops last year. I shall be flying for the first time soon.

My cousin paid for a hip op last month and is doing brilliantly. She is now in no pain.

You can get an implement to help you put on your socks. It’s very easy to use, works like an dream and you can buy it on Amazon.

I always think of my hip op as miraculous. I had no pain after the op and was home in 3 days. I worked very hard at the exercises given me by the physio and also had a few sessions of hydro therapy. Occupational Health sorted out the height of my armchair and gave me other equipment. At the end of six weeks I was walking without even a stick. the worst part was trying to sleep on my back and you do need someone who will change your elastic socks and cut your toe nails!
