I didn’t know it had changed. It used to be a very straightforward procedure - I added my uncle to my insurance when he was here from NZ for about £25, if memory serves me right. I wonder why it has changed?

Floradora yes she could but it would be very expensive for the use she would make of it. She can get insurance for our car but now has to go to a different insurer and we have been quoted £179 for 9 days. It used to cost about £20 to add her onto ours.
She’ll probably only go out to meet friends a couple of times so she can get a taxi or I can take her. It’s just an extra faff.
So many of us on gransnet have non resident offspring that will get a bit of a shock when they blithely ring up and expect it all to work as it used to. As I did!

I always used to put my brother and sister (both from Australia) on my car insurance. As had been mentioned the rules changed. My sister always hires a car now. My brother no longer drives so either I drive him or his partner does.

I’ve started this thread because 3 of us went off on a tangent on the older drivers thread.

My DD is visiting us in a couple of weeks time. I phoned up to add her to our car insurance, as we have done since she left the U.K. 25 years ago. Last time she visited was two years ago.
Well I couldn’t add her. The insurance company told me that the rules had changed, I have looked on line and it seems to be true. She is an Australia's citizen and has an Australian driving license , she had to give her U.K. license up when she passed her test in NSW.
I’ve given up, we are off to France while she is here so as we only need it for a week I will be her taxi service unless anyone on here has a solution.
