U Channel.

I had this the other day, just during one programme but it hasn't happened since.

My TV is apparently so old that it is almost obsolete, according to Tellyman. I bought it in 2017 so it missed all the subsequent innovations and modifications eg I can't get TVX or Disney+. I don't know how old your TV is but it may have some bearing on the problem.

Why not watch it on Iplayer, perfect reception and no adds.

My tv is older than yours Indigo it was bought in 2011! It’s just a little one we have in the snug.

I have am Amazon fire stick on my Samsung smart TV had it since 2015 and couldn't get ITV X or My 5 without. You can get Freevee some good series on there .

Mine has been doing that recently on all Freeview channels. It rights itself immediately so doesn't worry me really. I watch a few things on U channel, recording Masterchef Australia every weekday.

I'm getting problems on Sky Freeview- it is almost impossible to watch but they've brought Buzzcocks back so I stuck it out!

I think our tv is about 15 years old and has also missed all the updates etc but we also use a fire stick which works fine. I just get a problem with prime where the lip synch is out and it is really annoying

I get the lip synch issue too. Is it a slow internet speed, or a problem with the channel?

I was watching U last night, and nothing would play. I could see the programmes but as soon as I selected one a window appeared saying there was a fault. I signed out and in again, and it righted itself.

I don't know doodledog. I live on a new estate and maybe the fibre isn't that quick yet? I'm not sure. I go into setting to do the bouncing ball reset (I have no idea what it is called) but it makes little difference and is putting me off watching prime and I tend to just go onto netflix now

although I have started watching stacey dooley stays over yesterday....I'm not sure I am brave enough to watch it with workmen in the house today as they may think I'm some kind of weirdo or even worse, a pervert

The issue with U is probably to do with buffering - the TV has to download enough data at the start and during the progamme to keep the continuity. The problem could be to do with your router, a slow internet speed or an old TV.

There's something called codec which is shorthand for code and decode or compression and decompression. Streamed digital signals have to be coded and decoded or compressed and decompressed (similar to a zip data file). An old TV can be slow at decoding.

I watched an episode of LTiH on U. The screen goes black for a second before and after the commercial break but that was all. As other have said, LtiH is also on iPlayer.

Pictures and sound can go out of synch during the course of a programme. Although digital pictures and sound are transmitted together (the tech term is “multiplexed”), they are separate streams of data processed by separate hardware both at the TV station and inside your TV. If you switch off, switch back on and find the programme again it usually gets back into synch. You can also try tweaking the TV settings by a tiny fraction a second to see if that helps.

We've just had fibre broadband installed, so I'll look out for the synch issue - I was surprised that the programmes wouldn't load last night, but these things are way above my head. I know how to work things, but not how they work, and am very happy with the 'switch it off and on again' approach - it works more often than not

I know what you mean about having people working in the house - it really puts me on edge. I'm sure they couldn't care less what I'm doing, but I do feel watched.

Stopped doing this after I checked on ordinary non-recorded programmes and everything was ok. I watch a lot of pre-recorded programmes as they are on too late for me to watch in ordinary time and I like to have subtitles so don't use i-player. I am seriously thinking I will have to buy an new set. !!

My TV is playing up most programmes have an issue now. I have had message boxes popping up telling me I will no longer be able to receive iplayer and Netflix. I think my TV is about eight years old.
