Am I the only person who can never use the search facility successfully?

Just that. Is it me, or is it particularly difficult? I’ve never managed to find anything.

Working now: its a good point about the dates.

I think you may have cracked the case BlueBelle and it depends on the tech you’re using.

BlueBelle Sat 24-Aug-24 18:17:36

I wasn’t looking for anything specific just clicked on an old thread from the search facility to show you the message I always get
I m on an iPad too but using the desktop site as I prefer the set up I wonder if that’s the difference Oreo

It's crap, much like the rest of the site. Especially frustrating is that search results never come up in date order angry

Thanks all. I’m using an iPhone. I seem you have ‘given’ my 12 inch iPad Pro to the grandchildren.

Oldnproud Sat 24-Aug-24 17:12:28

I haven't tried the search facility for ages, but I seem to remember that whether or not it worked for me depended whether I was using the mobile site or the desktop site - can toggle between the two at bottom of page.

What thread were you looking for when the cow pic popped up?

Oreo Sat 24-Aug-24 17:02:54

Ok.
Have just tried three different topics, moving house, toddlers, and Boris Johnson.😄
I didn’t get the moo cow, but did find the threads, some very old back to 2015.
I’m looking on an iPad.

Well I can’t just pull something out the air Oreo how do you find an old thread when it says it’s Mooo ved ?

I haven’t seen that BlueBelle so will take a look, realistically all the old threads should be available.

Oldbat1 Sat 24-Aug-24 15:20:24

It isnt any use at all and gransnet dont bother. Just something else to add to the list.

just put the key word into google, with gransnet added, in the search bar.
always seems to work.

It’s very poor it works a bit sometimes but what I find most frustrating is when I want to go back to a thread say 6 months old it will never allow me saying it’s Mooo ved with a picture of a cow but other posters seem to resurrect really old old threads HOW???

Tell me something you’d like to find and I’ll see if I can find it,
I have found some old threads that a poster mentioned, amusing ones. They kept me laughing all night.

kircubbin2000 Sat 24-Aug-24 14:17:26

I've never got it to work.

AGAA4 Sat 24-Aug-24 13:28:56

I used Pittcity's method as the search facility has never worked for me.

ginny Sat 24-Aug-24 13:24:00

Never worked for me.

If the Gransnet search doesn't work, just use Google to search Gransnet Type in your search cues then type Gransnet.

That's what I do.

Without giving anything personal away could you give an instance of what you’re searching for.

I’ve tried loads of times, to follow up on various recommendations, using keywords mostly as I never remember who posted, but haven’t ever had a result. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Gin Sat 24-Aug-24 11:52:29

I have used it and find the first ten or so items are unrelated to Gransnet but you can find them far down the list and you have to be very accurate in your wording.

Maggiemaybe Sat 24-Aug-24 11:04:13

It works to an extent, but can be very frustrating. If I search for a thread I often get that daft picture of a cow saying it’s been moooved. Then the option to go back just throws you out completely. Sometimes the thread’s been deleted, but not always. Also, searching for a subject, I used to get the option of showing the most recent posts first, on my old desktop. That option’s not there on my iPhone.

Patsy70 Sat 24-Aug-24 10:55:02

I use it quite regularly and it always works. I put the key word of the thread I’m looking for and a few options come up.
