Didn't you ever notice that your grandparents' skin became almost transparent as they aged? This used to intrigue me about my granny whom I saw almost daily as a child. One day, some years ago, my DGS, then about 10, asked me, 'Why are your hands like that, Granny?' I just said, 'Because I'm old.' which seemed to satisfy him. I was only in my 70s at the time.

My rheumatologist suggested using any excess Prai neck and decolletage cream on the backs of my hands at night - just a random conversation during hand examination - and I have noticed a huge improvement!

Afraid it’s a fact of life your skin gets thinner as you age. I’m only 67 and always catching myself on things. And it takes longer to heal too.

Definitely. And I bruise so easily! Moisturiser etc., don’t help; I’ve been using some for some 40 years

I am 67 and have noticed this, I just keep slapping on moisturiser to keep my skin as supple and smooth as possible!

That’s sadly because it is! And we lose collagen as we age. Hands can be a dead giveaway no matter how many “tweakments” some people have.
I have heard of celebs having collagen implants to make their hands look younger (!) although personally regular use of hand cream usually sorts it for me.
It also helps if, like me, you have an adequate layer of fat under your skin - at least that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it.

Well that cheered me up ( not) I’m not anywhere near 80!! ☹️

It’s a fact that the older you get the thinner your skin gets…
I work in a care home and the people in their 80s and 90s, their skin really is so delicate..

Has anyone else noticed that they have thinning skin? I knocked myself against the dining room chair the other day and took a chunk out of my arm, the previous week I knocked into the catch on the door and that took a chunk out of my other arm. I think I will have to start wearing long sleeved tops in the summer next year.

I can also see the bones of my hands through my skin and my blood vessels!

This in particular is freaking me out!
