Any tips on how to deal with mice phobia

I heard a pest control person on the radio saying a mouse can fit through a hole that’s just the diameter of a pencil. So that’s what we need to be checking for and filling in.

Thanks everybody for taking the time to post. Most entered my neighbours house, ate the poisin there, but I just had them visit I think as I've had no sighting since.

I heard a noise, and then it appeared. I think I'll be jumpy every time I hear a noise now. I also thought the holes were blocked , but there must have been a tiny hole so I can rectify this.

I've also put the noise things in, mixed reviews but I feel better for trying.

Have to say that plug ins don’t only not work in repelling mice, they don’t repel spiders either though they purport to.
We have had loads of massive house spiders from the end of summer, more than any other year, and I have a terrible phobia of big spiders. There was one sitting right in the middle of my bed the other night, my OH had to get rid of it, he uses the hoover then releases them in the garden. He doesn’t like them either. But when I went to bed I stripped it then made it again.
Have covid right now so spending more time napping in bed but am still having to check the bed linen.

I totally understand where you are coming from I have the same phobia as I child the next door neighbour son kept pet mice and terrified me by letting them all out right in front of me I am going to try the peppermint and lavender oil

I think the main deterrent is to do your utmost to stop them gaining access to your house. Mice can squeeze themselves through incredibly small gaps. A couple of years ago I found droppings in the cupboard under the kitchen sink. I could see small gaps around the pipework. I can’t remember the name of the product I used but it was like polystyrene foam in an aerosol can which quickly sets hard. You can completely fill any shape of small gap with it. I filled in around the pipes and that solved the problem.

Then I checked around all the other cupboards and filled any other potential entry point. I’ve not had a problem since. While there are ways to gain entry they’ll keep coming in search of food and warmth.

Cats are the best deterrent but not all are good mousers. We have had a few cats, one was hot on the trail of any mouse and would also bring them in from outside to show us, but we have had a tom who would happily lounge in a room with mice without patting an eye.
My old mum always said female cats make the best mousers, not sure if it’s true.

I am phobic about them too. Dealing with them is one job I delegate to my husband and the various cats we've had. I have, in the past, thought about borrowing my husband's air rifle, but then decided it was not a good idea indoors!

A few years ago I had mice in my house. My cat, a good mouser in her day was elderly and sat looking at them.

I bought a gadget on Amazon which I plugged in and left. It makes a screeching noise that rats and mice can hear but not humans and pets. My problems were solved within days and I have never had one since.

Rather have mice, than rats- my cottage was next to a river & restaurant, I used to get the odd rat in my back garden- my cat used to kick -box them all around the garden🤣 it’s the incontinence that would bother me.
Once watched a doc on pest infestations in London, undercover cameras were set up, found mice running amongst coffee cups, when tested, urine was present 😩
Put me off having coffee out in restaurants but that was years ago.
I would buy a couple of traps & place chocolate on them- if they are field mice, would buy humane traps & let them go. Good luck 👍🏻

Get rid of them ASAP and meanwhile keep busy. They are wary of you and easily alarmed.
Keep kitchen spotless. Check drawers for tell-tale signs. Just persist. You will feel better for it.

I don’t have a phobia but certainly don’t want any in the house. We used to live in a very old cottage next to a farm and mice did appear from time to time. I had a Burmese cat who made short work of them, they didn’t live long enough to become a problem.

I've had lot of trouble with mice over the years. Luckily I'm not scared of them, but I don't want them in the house .
So I have humane traps all over the house, in every room.
Also, I read that they hate certain smells, mainly peppermint and lavender. So I scatter peppermint oil in every room, every few days, Near places where they most likely find their way in.
I've had far less mice since doing this.
When I catch one in a humane trap, I take them for a walk,
[ a decent length or else they come back] or a drive. Some of them have gone to live on the moors.

I have a mouse phobia and presently we live in a very old house so every year mice appear. We are ultra careful with food, making sure it is kept in airtight containers, and every night we brutally clean the kitchen and dining room. But still they come. So when it happens we go into overdrive with traps, poison - sorry but an infestation is not healthy and if you see one mouse there are probs many more - and try to seal entry points with wire wool, only during the day though, don’t seal at night because they probs still in the house and you want to stop them entering not exiting.
Plug ins don’t work.
Also if you like pets try to get a rescue cat that is a good mouser.
But am with you I cannot stand being in a room with a mouse, I usually run out screaming.
Try making a lot of noise when you are sitting in a room or going to bed at night, this will scare any off. I would stamp up and down the house singing loudly. I think the neighbours thought I had lost the plot.

We keep all our food in tightly sealed high cupboards at night, make sure no crumbs are on floors or surfaces, check every morning for mouse droppings, have had the infestation people in to put down bate boxes and we stick to a tight routine every day. I've been sitting on the sofa in the middle of the night only to be watched by a beady little pair of eyes. Yes, they do bring disease and no I don't want to catch anything nasty.
