Plantur 39 Brown Colour Shampoo - eek, bit orange!

My mother lived into her 90s with hair steely grey, which she hated. I am following in her footsteps- it’s a dreadful draining colour. Some of us carry on colouring our hair as we really haven’t got beautiful grey hair.

Plantur Brown shampoo deposits colour onto the hair and is only suitable for hair that is brown to enhance the colour. White or grey hair has little or no pigment so I don't think it will ever match the brown of your hair.
As others have said a root touch up made to be used on grey would be better.
Or alternatively free yourself from colouring (eventually) by asking the hairdresser to put streaks in the root areas of light mixed brown and highlight the brown bulk of the hair with a lighter mixture. If you have the brown hair regularly cut and have roots done a few times eventually you may discover how flattering your silvery hair can be.
This may not be for you but I agree with StephLP, grey hair in good condition and well cut can look lovely .

I used Plantur Brown shampoo for about 2 yrs and also bought the matching conditioner online. I used them both twice per week. I can’t put a strong dye on my hair as I have alopecia due to medication but this did the job. I didn’t get orange hair but as my hair fell out over the years I have now turned to wigs about a year ago and stopped using Plantur Brown. 2 months ago my very sparse hair under my wig turned orange!! Strange but not worried as nobody sees it. 😂

Seriously - just let your hair go grey. I couloured my hair from my early 20's until I reached my 60's when Covid struck. 'Now or Never', I thought, and just let the grey grow through. I love my hair now. Such better condion. Recently out in London for a meal with my son and the waitress said - your hair looks wonderful. What a confidence boost!.

my hairdresser recommends using the dark hair dry shampoo to hide the grey roots.

Try putting some shampoo just on the roots several times?
Reading about Plantur 39 colour, every time you use it the hair will become darker so if you use normally on your hair the roots will never catch up to the rest of your hair.

Thanks for your responses. I only use the brown shampoo 2 x week maximum and I may use it again to see if the orangey pigment darkens to a more subtle shade. It does make my hair look as though I have golden streaks, just the hairline area thats the problem. I have also noticed that I have shed less hair since starting to use it and the condition is lovely. I did wonder about the black one but that does contain a harsher chemical and had really awful reviews. I do have a root touch up spray which I’ll give a go.

Is it the Plantur Brown Shampoo or the Plantur Anti Grey Shampoo?, I've started using the latter and I am really happy with the results. Initially I used the shampoo for every wash and left the shampoo on for 5 minutes before rinsing but now I only use it every third wash using normal shampoo in between which gives a golden blonde on my grey.

I've been wearing headscarves and a variety of stupid hat's much to the delectation of my husband! I desperately need a fabulous new cut & colour but we have so many rubbish hairdressers around here.
Maybe with hindsight it could just be my head, my bonkers hair or my stupid face that's really the problemo! 😊

Don’t do yourself down, find a different hairdresser and make sure she understands what you really want from style and colour if funds permit.
If not, go for the cut you want and colour at home, any dye which says it covers grey and a shade lighter than your natural colour will do the job.

There's mixed reviews on Boots chemist. I might give this a try myself. but I won't be using it everyday. I hadn't heard about it. I would leave it on for 5 minutes each time.

Have you tried root touch up brushes and similar. Josh Wood
( joshwoodcolour.com/products/light-brown-blending-brush ) do a good one I use very occasionally on the edges. I use the dark blonde as my hair is a mixed hazel colour. At 79 my hair is going grey around the edges but refuses to develop further grey… so I’ve been in colour limbo for years!

Oh gosh, dont want to be any more orange! I have brown hair with grey (orange roots). I am avoiding any permanent dye. I might slap a semi permanent colour on after I have emptied the bathroom completely!!

Colour theory, learned from hairdresser.
Grey hair is missing gold tones. You need to add gold/dark blonde THEN brown, otherwise your brown will forever be orange. Try the root touch up since it’s allegedly specially formulated. Or get to the salon!

I don’t know but I imagine it will go browner if you keep on using it, grey hair is quite colour resistant. In the end tho I would use the dye meant for root touch ups so you won’t need to colour all the hair.Just choose the brown colour that matches best the rest of the hair.L’Oreal do a root touch up I think, look at Amazon to compare.There’s just enough to coat the roots and temples where grey usually lurks and is easy to do with no chance of getting it on the ceiling 😂
