Is it my pillow?

I use a Dunelm memory foam shaped pillow. They do sell a Tempura one for around £100 but I find the "bumps" too severe. The cheaper one at £24 does me well and lasts for years.

If I go on holiday I take a piece of memory foam to put inside the pillow case and if I forget it I use a small rolled-up towel.

I don`t recommend buckwheat pillows, they are very hard and make a noise when you sleep on them, like sleeping on a bag of noisy stones. I got rid of mine

wonder if yours were too tightly packed karmalady? Ours are great and keep your head cool in hot weather!

I’ve no special pillow but kind of similar to NfkDumpling I pull mine down so it supports my neck as well as my head.

I have a Tempur shaped memory foam pillow. They feel thinner than an ordinary pillow to start with but the wider front edge sits under your neck and supports it. You feel you're sleeping much flatter. I've had no problem with my neck since I've used them.

Certainly, try with a different pillow.

However, there may other causes.

I find, if I lie too long in the same position overnight I tend to wake with a headache the next day.

The same applies if I have been short of fluids in the course of the day.

And the most frequent cause is too much dust in my bedroom! So frequent dusting and vacumming and floor-washing helps. As does airing the room.

Another point is, how old is your mattress? It is obviously cheaper to replace pillows than a mattress, but an old mattress may not be providing the support you need.

teabagwoman I tried a firm pillow under a soft pillow last night and it worked! It will take me a while to get used to a firm pillow but the relief this morning of no headache or stiff neck was wonderful.
I agree with karmalady I find buckwheat pillows too noisy and a feather pillow always seems to make a ticking noise.

Organic buckwheat pillows are great as you can mould them to however you like. They come in a zipped cover, so you can add or remove the filling to suit you. They do different sizes, too. They last for ages! We buy ours from Razzmatazz.

That’s very encouraging everyone. I shall buy new firmer pillows. I had noticed that the pillows I have at the moment leave a big dent in them after I’ve slept on them so they are not giving my neck the support it needs. Thank you

I’ve had similar symptoms and changing my pillows has done the trick. It’s very much a try it and see situation but what works for me is a firm, thick pillow with a thin soft one on top.

I've found a firmer pillow works better for me.
I like the box type firm pillow , Dunelm sell them and other places .

Headaches after lying down were the first symptoms of arthritis in my neck. I use a feather pillow so that I can mould it to support my neck. I still get the headaches occasionally but know it will go after walking around.

That is not to say your headaches have the same cause, however a simple X-ray will determine if it is arthritis.
