Help! It's haunting me!

Hello grans and grandads alike, I need help, please.

First off, if you believe in such things, oh thank goodness. But, if you don't, well I hope it never happens to you!

I don't consider myself any different than anyone around me, well, I'm a bit cookie but aren't we all, sometimes?!

A little while before Christmas I had a sudden rash of visits, to put it the only way I can.
I'm not an empath, medium or anything like that, at least I'm sure I'm not although I have had visits in the past. Until the run up to Christmas I'd only ever had one that scared me badly, and that was a few years ago.

Anyway, I sometimes have a cat that jumps on my bed, pads around and then settles. I've never seen it, but I feel it's presence. It's only been in this house, which I've lived in for 5 years. The cat was the only visitor here, until this one that is, quite frankly, scaring the heck out of me!!

Suddenly, it...he, I think it's a he, appeared! I swear I am awake, but I suppose I could be dreaming. I feel awake, though!!

He came into my room and at first I thought it was the cat, but I've never actually heard the cat walking in. I heard it/him walk in then I felt the bed behind me going down as he laid himself down, just as a partner would if they were coming to bed late, but I suddenly just knew it wasn't good!
It took me a while to muster up the courage to turn over and look behind me,. I half turned, just enough to see who it was, sort of hoping it was just my housemate sleepwalking or sitting there for a moment to see if I was awake, unfortunately it was not my housemate!!

I saw this frail, little body wearing a blue & white striped vest type t-shirt, dirty and dishevelled. The body was so thin I could have counted the ribs. The head seemed a bit too big for the body, pale greyish-white in skin tone, with hair that in remembering later, to try to describe to my DD, I could only describe as looking like Gollum from Lord of The Rings ----sh't, my front light has just dimmed to almost off, thank God there's a light behind me, too!!!
I think Gollum is so cute, but the visitor is NOT!!

I felt, more than saw, that it was grinning. It was faced away from me, thank God as I think I'd have screamed the house down!
It left me soon after, quite suddenly and I spent the rest of that night sitting up in bed with my lamp on.

The next night I was alone all night, it didn't visit. Until about 3 nights after the first visit. Pretty much the same happened, except that I saw it's face, it's eyes looking at me, a stupid grin on it's face. I closed my eyes tightly, willing it away!

I slept with my light on for a few nights afterwards. It visited again before Christmas, on the other side of my bed, and I found my voice that night and screamed out for my housemate, who didn't come running but admitted next day he thought he had heard something but didnt hear it again so he went back to sleep! Then nothing until last night (Monday night). I heard my door open, letting in some light, I heard the patter of small feet like a child coming in to tell me they weren't feeling well - I'm sure you've all heard those over the years.
It got in behind me, I kept still but I started saying, "I know you're not real, you're not really here. Leave me alone, just go away!" As I said the last bit I felt it getting out of my bed, and I slightly relaxed. But, it walked around the bed until it got to where my face was and it bent down to me and it bloody well went, "Ssh-sssh!" Like you would to a little child - even though I had my eyes screwed shut so I wouldn't see it's face, it somehow seemed a bit humorous - then it stood up and went right around to the other side and got back into my bed!
Momentary humour over I started praying to God and trying to remember The Lords Prayer, and I felt it leave. It didn't seem to like the praying!
But it worked.
Soon afterwards, I got up. My housemate is ill and was getting up, so I got up, too.
Oh, I forgot, just before the shushing I'd attempted to shout for my housemate again. Thankfully, he (housemate) knows me well enough to know I don't joke about such things!

I'm not normally a religious or praying person, but I'm actually scared to go to bed so I'm downstairs on my sofa right now, my body feeling like it's covered in goosebumps!
The light suddenly dimming started those off and hopefully it's just that the bulb needs changing!

Please help me, what can I do to make sure it/he doesn't come back??

I'm so sorry for the long rant.

I would say if you're frightened or it is upsetting you, then ask a priest to come and bless your house, particularly that person.
It might not need an exorcism, just a blessing.

I think I have posted this before. My DD house had a ghost but a benevolent one. It sang to the baby and rocked the cot and the dog could see it , The dog sent a ball to it and waited for it to return the ball.

We have friends who had a benevolent ghost who came to look after new babies.

I feel for what you are experiencing Have you thought about contacting your local priest and asking him/her to come and bless your house? That is supposed to work in driving earth-bound spirits away. Whether you believe or not, it's worth a try!

Yes, I agree.

A family member and another independent person both had experience of poltergeists and the priest came to ask them to leave and bless the property.

Ps these children spoke to me.

It is in your head not in your bed.
Night paralysis is the probable answer.

🤔

I am quite a cynical person but I remember two separate occasions when I've felt a strong presence of something in the room which were children as yet unborn (not even on the way).

My mother laughed when I told her about these presences but both came into being at future dates.

We too have had a cat haunting, it came after a cat we had given shelter to later died (not with us) we never saw it properly only a glimpse passing by out of corner of our eye, (at first thought our own cat was passing but when we went in a room there our cat was fast asleep) or we would feel it softly touch us in passing, like with a cats tail- again not our old cat who spends a lot of time sleeping on a bed or landing, or in a window! It even seemed to move house with us, to the next home which was an old victorian house.I think there were at least one other ghost in the victorian house though, (unless they had their own ghost cat there?) our cat suddenly didnt like sleeping in his bed on the landing, on his own at night, and often was at bottom of stairs doing a loud howling meow- we never saw anything though and it didnt seem unfriendly if there was a ghost besides the cat ghost. We dont glimpse or feel the ghost cat at this brand new house, and our old cat has begun sleeping on the landing again, safe guarding all his humans- i like to think the ghost cat stayed on in the victorian house as a pet for the other ghost.(fanciful i know, but a sweet idea)🙂

It’s just your brain playing tricks probably caused through stress …..there’s no such thing as ghosts

Poodledelight Thu 16-Jan-25 14:54:44

I used to be a medium. Now I'm an Large.

Silverlady333 Thu 16-Jan-25 14:54:22

No I haven't but that sounds like the makings of a good Ghost story!

Have you spoken to a priest about it? I believe there are priests of all denominations who will take you seriously and try to help (don't bother with commercial oojie-boojie merchants - stick with the known Churches). If you don't get anywhere with your parish priests, try going above their heads (no pun intended) by finding out the contact details of their superiors (the dean or the bishop). I doubt very much whether they'll laugh you out of the room. Good luck with it.

I have a friend who is a medium. She is the most down to earth and level headed person I know. My late husband used to tease her about it and say to me he didn’t believe in ghosts etc. Then one day he was doing some work for her in her cottage while she was out when the radio upstairs turned itself on! He never disbelieved her after that!
If I were you OP I would see if you could find a genuine medium who would be able to help you get rid of your ghostly visitor.

MaggsMcG Thu 16-Jan-25 14:28:46

I smell things in my house and car that no one else smells. Like food being cooked or a familiar soap or perfume. The food i sometimes put down to my late husband as he loved to cook. I don't know if I believe in the after life but I have lots of relatives who do. Including one daughter who swears she sees my Mother ( her grandmother) when ever anything really bad has or is about to happen. Although she didn't appear when my husband died.

Vykk Thu 16-Jan-25 14:09:59

Get a carbon monoxide detector in your room, just in case it could pinpoint something. It's a good thing to have in the house anyway and they're not expensive. But Carbon monoxide can be the cause of hallucinations !
Peaceful wishes to you smile

These sort of things certainly can happen.

You have foun.d the way to deal with this or these scary visitations; prayer works, whether you are a believer or not.

If you have a lot of this sort of thing, you might want to ask the nearest priest to come and bless your house.

wibblywobblywobblebottom Thu 16-Jan-25 14:03:16

I don't believe in ghosts, never have done, never will. It's all nonsense Never seen ghosts, don't know anybody who has. Also, I'm an atheist, I don't believe in anything. Except that the saucepan of milk on the stove is going to boil over any minute. Bye.

cookiemonster66 Thu 16-Jan-25 13:52:11

I had a regular ghost visit me for years. My story was featured in Fate and Fortune magazine last January. You just need to tell it in no uncertain terms to go away and leave you alone. Confronting it works for me. I’ve seen many things over the years but I’m not as scared anymore because I know I can tell them to go away.

You could try Kathleen Milner's chant:

You are loved, blessed, healed and forgiven!
You are loved, blessed, healed and forgiven!
You are loved, blessed, healed and forgiven!
You are at one with your own higher self!
Take the hand of an angel!
Go into the light.
Go with Jesus, go with Mary, go with Buddha, go with Quan Yen, go with Krishna, go with Kali, go with Mohammed, go with Fatima! Go now!
Go with the angels, go with the Great White Brotherhood, go with the Saints, go with Bodhisattvas! Go now!
Go to heaven, go to the Light! Go now!
Go to peace, light, love, joy, healing, mercy, grace, forgiveness, wonder, inspiration, enlightenment! Go now!

I know it can be scary but try to remind yourself that an apparition cannot damage you physically. I did have a presence in one house that could be heard walking about by everyone and one time a huge loud crash next to me and occasionally the sound of things falling in the loft space. When I'd finished paying the loan for the house we received the deeds from the mortgage company and I found out that the previous owner's husband had died not in the war as we'd been told by her but shortly after getting planning permission for loft conversion. When I started taking away stair panelling ready to renovate the house, I saw the banister rail had been broken and it looked like the man may have tried working on the loft himself and injured himself as the ladder slipped. After I put that possible story together, the noises stopped. One might almost believe he wanted his story told correctly.

By all means pray to have the ghost removed (don't bother with exorcist - prayer should do it) it's not your responsibility to help them find peace unless you are interested to do so. If you already have loved ones who have died maybe reach out to them in your thoughts and ask if there is anyone they can send to collect this spirit. That's what I did with our cat who didn't seem to leave us for a couple of weeks after he died.

Hi, you say you’re not religious but my suggestion is that you find a priest who can come and cleanse your house. You need a Catholic (either Anglican or Roman). They are used to dealing with this type of thing. Don’t know what area you live in but if you’re not used to church things, ring the office of the local bishop and ask if they have a diocesan exorcist who can help you or pm me and I’ll try and find out.

I second this.

I have an open mind on this but have never experienced anything. My sister died many times due to heart attacks before passing a few years later. She was very disappointed not to see or hear anything when she was resuscitated. No lights, tunnels or anything at all of an afterlife existence. She had previously believed in it.
I talk to my late mother regularly but she never answers me and I never see her or anything. But if I ask her for help with something it usually happens.

I’ve seen my dad who died in shadow form hard to describe big like looking in a puddle I’ve seen 3 of my cats after they passed again in shadow form and two of my dogs I’ve had the bed go down next to me I’m not asleep far from it . Had many many experiences over the years
