Knives discoloured!

I have never immersed bone handles in washing up water let alone put them in the dishwasher. They just get a a brief dip and a wipe with dishcloth or swipe with brush.

I would be surprised if they weren’t bone handles and if they are I’m surprised they survived the dishwasher. Have they been re-handled at some point? Firth Brearley is one of the oldest cutlery names and has an interesting history. It was Harry Brearley who invented a steel that wouldn’t stain when used with food. Hence stainless steel.
Sorry I can’t throw any light on why they have discoloured.

I’ve been washing them in the dishwasher for years and years. As I said, it has only happened in the last few weeks. I’m stumped!

If they are bone they should never soak or go in a dishwasher.

To remedy this put a little lukewarm water in a mug, add some lemon juice and bicarb/baking powder, put in the knives as this fizzes and leave for a short time, then remove and hand wash, I do this with teaspoons when they become stained.

I thought the OP meant the handles of the knives, not the blades.

To clean teaspoons yes, but don’t think that would restore the cream handles?

My butter knives have, over the last couple of weeks, lost their creamy colour and are now somewhat green. I have no idea why. I have had them for years. Maybe the manufacturers have changed the chemicals in the dishwasher tablets?
