So you are still a chicken!
Next November my brother, who lives in Spain, will be 80 yrs of and wants to celebrate his birthday with his close family. So I will be off to Spain before an already booked holiday in Lanzarote in the end of November

I'm about to celebrate my 85th birthday and on the invitations I put "No presents just your presence please". Not that it helps you and your dilemma I'm afraid.

I would just take a card , unless I was family or a close friend

Ask your friend- not everyone wants wine or alcohol, including me!

A bottle of nice wine perhaps?

I would take a bottle of something for him.

How well do you know him? Does he have particular hobbies, for example? If so, you could perhaps get him a gift card that covers that hobby, or buy something he could use for said hobby.

Perhaps he likes whiskey or similar? You could, perhaps, buy him something he likes to drink.

My advice, though, would be to ask your friend what her DH’s likes/dislikes are and, more importantly, if gifts are expected. (Many people are just happy to have you at the party, and don’t expect gifts, especially by a certain age, when, by then they have what they want or can get it at some point).

Whether gifts are expected or not, though, a card, I’m sure, would be appreciated.

I have been invited to a 60th birthday party of a friend's husband. Just wondering what people usually do these days. A card or present wise?
