HELP - CAN'T UNLOCK MOBILE PHONE

(28 Posts)

Has this happened to any of you, please? The phone is a Samsung A52S 5G. I switched it off as some advice online said I needed to to help my Fitbit device synch with the mobile phone again by switching both off and restarting them.

Needless to say I hadn't backed up my phone recently. And I can't remember the code for unlocking the phone once it has restarted (which it has).

The only solution given by Samsung is to restore it to factory settings, which will delete all my data, photos, texts, Whatsapps, etc etc.

If this has happened to any of you and you managed to unlock the phone (perhaps with the help of younger and more techy family members/friends) without losing data PLEASE PLEASE let me know - and never never switch your mobile phone off unless you've taken all sorts of security measures in advance to retrieve your data.

Do you know a tech savvy teenager? Might be able to unlock it for you

The OP told us on Monday that her problem is sorted.

Yes, mine turns itself off once a week overnight to update or whatever it gets up to. Then, in the morning I have to enter pin to restart.

I switch my phone off and always have done in the past, when recharging. It is much faster to charge your phone that way.

Also mine sometimes turns itself off if I forget to charge it

I had registered my phone online and they had my details they could give me a hint to my PIN number which unlocked my phone. I don't need a password for my phone but I do to log on the online app.

I switch my Samsung off quite often, never had any issues opening it up again. Now you've got me worried.

I switch my iPhone off regularly as advised

It frees up space by deleting the cache and clearing out temporary files.

Indeed you should. You may miss out on important system updates if you never shut it down properly

It's worth saying here tho that you should power your phone off completely at least once a week to keep it running properly, its part of the maintenance.

Is it? I’ve never heard this, and I have certainly never done it. I haven’t had a problem with any phone.

So glad for you! The initial panic is awful until the memory trickles in 😂

I use dh phone number /email as the verification , just in case!

I have an Apple phone though and can use an iPad to access it.

Often 0000 is a code that the sim uses or comes with I think?

Thank you, Aldom.

Your comment about the password needed was the same one I would use when turning the phone back on every day gave me the clue about the password that was needed, which I remembered.

My next task is to find out the best way to back up my mobile phone. That way, I would not panic so much if something similar ever happens again.

Aldom Mon 07-Apr-25 14:05:31

Oh, that's such good news. What an enormous relief for you. I had wondered, if you thought about it, whether your password might come back to you. So glad it has. Enjoy your day now. smile

Many thanks to all who have replied and who understood how I was feeling.

I am delighted to report that I have realised which password was needed and remembered it. After trying it out it worked.

Such a relief not to have to lose all my data. Never use the Power Off button unless you have set up ways to get your phone working again and back it up frequently.

I use my fingerprint to unlock my Samsung phone, but occasionally it doesn't work and I am able to input the four digit PIN.

Could you get the verification code sent to your email address?

So sorry Ramblingrose - I can’t imagine being unable to access my phone. As someone suggested go to your local mobile phone shop. Those lads are very clever. Not that I know much but I think, all our codes etc go to the ‘cloud’ and you can retrieve it from there, I think.
No point saying this but have a little notebook with all your codes and passwords. Don’t rely on your memory.
Good luck !

Go to your local computer/phone shop I’m sure they sort it for you

Aldom Sun 06-Apr-25 23:20:20

So sorry. What an upsetting situation.
Thinking of you.

Have you got a mobile phone/pc/tablet repair shop locally? If so, someone there may be able to help.

Ramblingrose22 Sun 06-Apr-25 23:00:54

Thanks for your replies so far.
I watched the video all the way through and the solution for my situation is a factory reset!
I do not use a code to open the phone every day, I use a fingerprint, but if the phone is locked you can't use a fingerprint.
I can't use my Samsung account because when you sign in they send you a 2-step verification code to your mobile phone!
It's so frustrating to be locked out of one's own phone and Samsung don't seem to have a way of verifying my identity if I need to unlock my phone that doesn't involve my phone.

Marydoll Sun 06-Apr-25 18:33:32

How about this?

How to unlock Samsung phone if forgot the password:
Go to Samsung Find My Mobile web site.
Use the same account linked to your Samsung device.
In the options menu, select "Unlock" and follow the prompts to unlock your device.

or this.

The code for unlocking after shutting down and restarting your phone is the same code you would normally use, on a daily basis, to open up the phone.
