Esmay

Not necessarily so don't panic .

It happened to my mother years ago .
She booked a hairdressers appointment-which she failed later having no recollection .
A couple found her wandering around town unable to remember how to get home.
They sat with her in a cafe until she remembered.
They brought her home in their car .
My father was frantic with worry .
The doctor thought that a past trauma had upset her .
She had counselling .
Mum was back to normal .

How nice of that couple to do that - aw!

Good to hear some nice tales for a change...

Migraine with aura can cause this too I believe.

Is your fridge at eye level or did he have to bend down and possibly flex his neck to reach things? My dad had an episode of transient global amnesia after he was doing something with a u bend of a sink. You can temporarily kink the artery in your neck which leads to a short episode of cognitive impairment. Glad he is back to normal

Yes, indeed, Transient Global Amnesia. About 30 years ago I was walking close to home, when suddenly I didn't recognise my surroundings. It took a few minutes for me to reorientate myself before I could continue my walk home. I mentioned this to my GP, but he wasn't concerned.

Or Transient Global Amnesia.

TIA - a mini stroke

It might have been a TIA? I would phone for medical advice this morning. Best wishes

I agree with Aldom.

Good morning Gr8dame. I'm sorry your husband had this worrying 'event' when he couldn't remember how to make a meal. It might well be nothing to worry about, possibly just tiredness. But on the other hand, it might have been a TIA (Transient eschaemic attack). If you still feel concerned in a couple of days I would get your husband to see his GP.
One TIA isn't dementia, but several eventually do cause impairment.
I've been through this, but it's many years ago.
Hopefully, what happened with your husband was just something and nothing, possibly tiredness.
I wish the best for you both. flowers

I doubt its dementia. The same thing happened to me, I couldn't remember where i was going, felt myself going to the floor but righted myself instantly then,. It was so brief. Never did anything about it. That was 10 years ago.

DH decided to make himself an omelette and got ingredients out of fridge and put them on the worktop then felt a bit strange and simply couldn’t remember how to do it. It’s really scared him - after a lie down he remembered what to do. He’s over 80 could it be the beginning of dementia?
