Who will be watching Wimbledon this year?

To be honest I prefer clay court tennis, but am more than happy to watch. Just concerned about the heat this year.

I’m backing Sinner ?

Is Alcaraz going to get knocked out shock? I’ve been asleep and woke up thinking he would have turned the match around.

I do hope not...

What a match!

Not my cup of tea.

I’m watching. I watch most years on tv. I’ve been to Wimbledon many times over the years, it was a short bus ride away from where we lived. Also the opportunity to be a ball girl through my old school. So, yes, thumbs up from me. I’m not supporting anybody in particular but I hope our players do better than usual.

Well I played this morning and it was hot for us even at the slow old pace we play, those players at Wimbledon are really working hard.
We are doing well so far, both Kartal and Tarvet are through.

Grannybags Mon 30-Jun-25 12:08:54

Go Kartal! What a brilliant first set

I'm a tennis fan and always hope our Brit players do well.
But Alcaraz is brilliant to watch. I'm a bit concerned about all of them in this heat though.

Sar53 Mon 30-Jun-25 10:31:32

I've always been a big tennis fan.
I hope Jack does well, also the other Brits, but I also love watching Alcaraz.
I hope they all survive the heat today and tomorrow.

For a while now I’ve been banking on the fact that it’s bound to rain during Wimbledon! (We live not far away and the garden would be very grateful.).

Love, love, love tennis and especially Wimbledon. Pimm’s and strawberries in the fridge, so I’m all set.
I really hope Sinner wins.

Mamardoit Mon 30-Jun-25 10:24:04

Not for me. I really don't find tennis that interesting to watch. I have played a bit for fun, my children joined a club when they were younger and one played competitively for a while. I don't like watching golf either but get why those that play enjoy it. Having wall to wall tennis for two weeks on the BBC is a bit much especially as they no longer have the rights to most other sports.

It is only for two weeks I suppose. I hope the weather stays fine for those that do enjoy it.

I've been watching the BBC series of documentaries about Serena Williams which seemed to be on after Glastonbury finished for the night. I'm going to watch them properly from the start. I had no idea she'd had so many major health problems during her career, or how hard she worked at her fitness [eg her lung capacity was reduced after an embolism].

I believe Venus has got a health problem too - it may be Sjogren's.

I must admit to always preferring Venus to Serena; I thought she was wonderful when she first appeared on the scene with her lovely smile; she was so graceful. She's had Sjogrens since 2011.

pably15 Mon 30-Jun-25 10:11:11

Hate it ,,will find something else to do while OH watches

jusnoneed Mon 30-Jun-25 10:10:23

I shall take a look at some matches, I used to watch nearly all but not so keen on some of the newer players. I hope Sinner wins and that Draper does well (I don't think he's likely to go to the end this year).
Radacanu is already talking herself down, it's a shame she is far too negative.

Pittcity Mon 30-Jun-25 10:07:00

I'm looking forward to watching. The roof will be closed on the show courts and the AC turned on. This will make a difference to play so it should be good......come on Jack!

Used to watch avidly back in the day when it was Borg, McEnroe, Chris Evert….but no longer very interested.

No idea who most of them are nowadays, but catch up on the News at night as to who is through.

A friend from aquacise said she was going this week. Hope she enjoys it, but it will be sweltering.

Don’t envy her.

Jaxjacky Mon 30-Jun-25 09:50:01

Not for me, but enjoy watching those of you watching.
It seems ironic we’re all being told to cover up and be careful in the sun, yet this is going ahead. Have games ever been rescheduled in the UK because of the weather I wonder.

Shinamae Mon 30-Jun-25 09:31:47

I’m afraid not……

Greyduster Mon 30-Jun-25 09:30:32

I’m with the non fans I’m afraid. I was visiting my niece recently and she was watching it. I tried to take a polite interest but failed. But for all you fans, I hope it’s a super exciting Wimbledon. Strictly cricket and golf for me!

JenniferEccles Mon 30-Jun-25 09:05:28

Oh yes I am! I look forward to Wimbledon every year, making sure we don’t accidentally book a holiday that fortnight!

We have quite a few Brits this year which is practically unheard of isn’t it ?!

I hear though that Jack Draper had tonsillitis last week so he may not be at his best.

Grandmadinosaur Mon 30-Jun-25 09:04:51

I shall be glued to my TV for the next 2 weeks I love Wimbledon. Just watched the ob in breakfast news. Silly sausage I am it makes me emotional seeing it!
I think Alcaraz will win but would like to see Jack Draper do well too. I like Jasmine Paolini too she is like a breath of fresh air. Ons Jabeur too.

It will be like a cauldron on court. Much as I’d love to be there watching I don’t envy the crowd in this heat.

Got Pimms and a good stick of ice creams in the freezer. When grandson is here after school two days we will be having scones,Jan and cream to go with the strawberries he had anyway. Bring it on.

keepingquiet Mon 30-Jun-25 09:02:33

I went off Wimbledon when it all got a bit predictable but since I retired I have enjoyed it a lot more.
So yes, I shall be dipping in and out and rooting for the underdog as usual!
I'm not sure yet who will be my favourites- I will wait and see who comes through but looking forward to sharing my experiences on here!

Millie22 Mon 30-Jun-25 08:49:25

Meeee! of course.

Missing Rafa though but I do like Jannik Sinner.
