Who will be watching Wimbledon this year?

To be honest I prefer clay court tennis, but am more than happy to watch. Just concerned about the heat this year.

I’m backing Sinner ?

Unfortunately not- just switched over to Popmaster!

PamelaJ1 Tue 01-Jul-25 20:53:20

Well I was wrong, it’s 1 set each now.

Grannybags Tue 01-Jul-25 21:08:46

Well, Coco Gauff, that was a shock!

MayBee70 Tue 01-Jul-25 21:47:06

Missed it. Just had a power cut…

I watched the last 5th set with Monfils and Humbert. What a joy, players who were obviously enjoying themselves. The spectators giving them both their backing. When Monfils finally won Humbert climbed over the net gave Monfils a hug and they walked off arm in arm chatting and laughing. This is what good sportsmanship is all about. 👍😀

I like Monfils. He's married to Svitolina

This is how I remember Wimbledon back in the day. I sat it out with Muller's match last night... hope Evans does well next round.

I was really looking forward to watching Cam Norrie today - but who is commentating - only flippin' Andrew Castle!
I can't tell you how much his inane comments spoil things for me

Sparklefizz Wed 02-Jul-25 15:28:45

I hope Corrie beats Tiafoe, not only because he's British but because Tiafoe was having a laugh taking that long break to change his clothes. It made me cross and I think the umpire should have said something.

Sparklefizz Wed 02-Jul-25 15:29:08

Norrie, not Corrie - silly autocorrect.

Grannybags Wed 02-Jul-25 15:44:00

Hear hear Sparklefizz He was definitely taking the p*

Grannybags Wed 02-Jul-25 15:55:13

He’s also wearing a massive necklace which I’m finding really annoying the way it’s flapping about as he’s running!! 😂😂

It says Big Foe

keepingquiet Wed 02-Jul-25 15:58:36

It's a very tight match but hope Norrie makes it. I hadn't even noticed the necklace...

Sparklefizz Wed 02-Jul-25 16:15:11

Magnificent tennis!!!!!

Grannybags Wed 02-Jul-25 16:16:12

That was exciting!

keepingquiet Wed 02-Jul-25 16:17:12

Well done Cam! Great match.

nanaK54 Wed 02-Jul-25 16:34:35

Yay! well done Cam!

Alcaraz against Tarvet, I want Ollie to win, but don’t want Carlos to lose! 🙄

MayBee70 Wed 02-Jul-25 17:20:49

When they were describing the match on the other channel it sounded as if Alcaraz was being soundly thrashed.

J52 Wed 02-Jul-25 17:23:30

He’s not having an easy time, but is 2 sets up.

MayBee70 Wed 02-Jul-25 17:51:30

Well done Tarvet! Like to see an underdog holding their own.

Pantglas2 Wed 02-Jul-25 18:00:32

Well played shots Tavert but Alcaraz was just too consistent.

J52 Wed 02-Jul-25 18:00:35

What a good game. Tarvet will be back next year, I hope.

For years, my husband and I loved watching Wimbledon. Then, (I think it was a female player) decided to give a huge loud grunt every time she whacked the ball. We found that intensely irritating and it ruined Wimbledon for us. We tried watching with the sound off but soon realised that the ‘thwack’ of the ball was part of the pleasure. Without it, it had no ‘oomph’! No more Wimbledon for us.
I tried watching again a year or so ago, (my husband had passed away) but the first match I tried was between Andy Murray and someone or other. Sadly, he was more insufferable than the grunting ever was, made worse by comments from his dislikable mother. I have given up!

woodenspoon Wed 02-Jul-25 18:11:23

I watch with the sound barely audible. I can hear the thwack of the ball, the scores but not so much the inane commentators. Andrew Castle drones on and on.
