Where is it? Lost or misplaced.

I have misplaced an expensive ring which I wear for special occasions. I remember where I was wearing it and now cannot find it - anywhere. It is not in its box or in my ring box. Any ideas of where I should start? I am thinking of taking my bedroom apart drawer by drawer etc etc. I could kick myself for being so careless but had attended a close family members funeral and had other things on my mind.

Please try the rubber rim of your washing machine
I lost a ring and must have been in pocket of garment/attached to piece of clothing and ended up in the wash and I hunted high and low getting more upset. I just thought worth a try and hey presto there it was in the rubber rim of machine with bits of tissue etc!
Good luck and do hope your ring turns up.

My husbands funeral in January at the wake it was so noisy I took out my hearing aids and put them in the little black zipped case which I would swear I put in my handbag by my chair,
Later that evening wanting to watch tv I needed them so went to my handbag, but no they weren’t there. I tipped everything out, and you know what rubbish we always have in our bags but this wasn’t my usual bag it was my best one and only had what I needed for the day.
I was frantic, I searched the lining, every corner, the inner zip pocket, everything in there, it wasn’t a tiny little purse it was 4ins x 3ins how could it be missing, but it was and has never been found from that day to this.
I prayed to every saint in heaven, told st Anthony I would make a charity donation if it was found and even now I regularly search the handbag it’s as if I think it’s still there somewhere.
My daughter suggested had I bought my hankie or a tissue out and was it caught on that and had it dropped on the floor but I know I never used my bag again as I left shortly afterwards.
I contacted the hotel just in case and the friend sitting with me assured me I had put it in my bag.
I’ll go and have a look now while I think about it, and I do hope you find your ring.

On the floor?
Take a torch and if you can get into the floor shine the torch along the carpet/floor laying the torch on the floor. Scan with the beam across the floor like a searchlight and ideally put your head level with the beam on the floor if you can and look along the beam. If the ring is on the floor the torch will pick it out straight away. Also look under rugs. I’ve found missing keys and missing rings this way. Gravity is a tricky thing but things often end up on the floor.

This is a great technique, which I find very useful. And you can practice getting up from the floor at the same time!

I lost a lovely gold and diamond ingot not the chain necklace only the ingot! It had been a leaving present from work. I looked high and low for it in the house as I only wore it on special occasions. It was missing for about 2 years. I found it in the runner of my sliding wardrobe on my husbands side as I was clearing his clothes out after he died. He knew how much I liked it and 'brought' it back to me ..a bit scratched from the sliding door but back!

Two recent instances of lost items.
1. Was going to use bus pass to get me to city. Have to drive 18 miles to get bus. Was waiting and decided to get organised and get my bus oass out. Nowhere to be seen and, neuther was a credit card. Searched my bag, all compartments but no luck. Worried about lost credit card so drive home. In the house completely emptied bag, turning upside down lining came down a bit and there were the cards, stuck in the bottom corner creases. They had somehow slid out of my walket style purse and due to pressure of junk in the bag had becone wedged in. Check every crease in bags and clothing.
2. Took car to garage for service, handing in keys. Had a lift to organisation I was doing some work for. After few hours I had finished and was getting ready to go. Looked for car keys, pockets, bag no where to be found. Searched the office, others doing the same, kitchen, toilet, cupboards then phone rang. My friend who'd given me a lift from garage to the organisation was asking if I'd heard if car was ready. Penny dropped! I didn't have keys, the garage did. Embarrassed wasn't the word.

I once lost one of a pair of expensive earrings. Found it months later in the double cuff of DH dress shirt!

Many many many years ago I lost a little silver ring,, I searched everywhere and eventually gave up looking. One day I was opening a window in the living room, the window had brass rings that you put your finger through to pull the window up. Brought my fingers out and hey presto my ring was back on my finger!

Do ask at the church/crem and the vehicle you came home in. And yes, the drive/kerb near where you got out - if it slipped off your finger on to your clothes, you may have dropped it getting in or out.

I found my ‘lost’ ring in the lining of the inside pocket of an old handbag. The lining was torn and the ring slipped in between.
I might have removed the ring and put it there, when I was doing the dishes in my son’s house.

So many things actually slip under or in the lining, don't they?

Yes, St Anthony is brilliant for lost things…

Applegran Sun 06-Jul-25 15:00:38

some people ask an expert dowser to help find things - not sure if it works, but if desperate might be worth searching for a reputable dowser.........

Kats2 Sun 06-Jul-25 14:58:37

Did you take it off at all to wash your hands..did you wear gloves at all…what was the first room you went into when you got home…

Back in 2012 I lost a cheque book - looked everywhere: down the back of the sofa, chairs, desk, filing cabinet...
Gave up and ordered another.
Spring of 2012 we moved to France with the same furniture etc, obviously removing cushions etc - you're thinking I'm going to say I found it? No! (And I regularly vacuumed down the sides and back and under the cushions!)
We moved twice more after our initial rental and one day I was just sitting on the sofa and put my hand down the side to retrieve a pen I'd dropped and THERE IT WAS, four years after I had lost it! How???!

About 50 years previously I "lost" a knife sharpener which was bright green and white and shaped roughly like a rounded off pyramid with a base around 6 inches square - not something you could easily misplace!
It's not turned up yet...

After the first trip in our campervan to look at the French house I realised on our return I couldn't find one of my rings (the only gold and genuine gemstone one I had). I thought it must be somewhere in the van and had given up when it got stolen and burnt out, thinking, well that's gone forever now!
TWO trips later we parked our "new" van in the drive and I got out of the driver's door to find my ring right there in front of me!

I lost a very expensive watch some years ago (it was a 10 year anniversary gift from work) - I searched the house over and over again but to no avail so decided I must have lost it somewhere outside. Fast forward several weeks and I picked a carrier bag up off the dining room chair that contained craft items, tipped it out to sort it and there was the watch. No idea how it got there! I also found my house keys in the freezer after having new ones cut and a bag of fish I'd lost in the shopping bag I used to use hanging in a cupboard - needless to say it was past it's best by then!!

Could your ring have fallen down the back of the drawers or a bedside cabinet? It will hopefully turn up when you are not looking for it!!

marymary62 Sun 06-Jul-25 14:49:32

Don’t give up, if you’re sure it must be at home carry on searching. Missplaced I’d guess rather than lost - did you get back late ? Check your bedding , check your pockets again, bathroom, under bed , settee etc . Keep looking !

One of my friends recently lost her wedding and engagement rings. Her fingers have become very thin.
The engagement ring was found in the salad box in the fridge, but the wedding ring has not been found.

I lost my gold signet ring given to me by my godfather for my 21st birthday at the time my DH was dying. I was very sad but decided it was unimportant in the greater scheme of things.

When I moved from Kent to Bristol nearly a year later, I was emptying the freezer and found it there! Goodness knows how that happened!

Like several other ladies have said. Ask St. Anthony for help in finding it . He has never let me down. Concentrate on wear you got undressed that night, bathroom ,bedroom, under the furniture where ever you changed your clothes that night. I feel for you Good luck. I have a ring which i very rarely take off ,because i am so frightened of losing it.

Years ago I lost a valuable ring. As it happens, the loss coincided with an overnight visit by a cousin.
Searched high and low, couldn't find it. After several weeks, I claimed on the insurance. They coughed up and I bought another ring.
Fast forward several months and needing to prepare guest room, I stripped the bed....out flew the lost ring! Whilst tucking the bottom sheet in, the ring must've slid off.
I'll leave you all to guess whether or not I informed the Insurers!
So, OP, check between your mattress and bed base.

Had anyone in your home potentially dishonest?

I took my earrings off and put them into my purse on autopilot for safe keeping, and found them several weeks later when I next needed a coin.
Good luck with your search.

Have you looked inside the bathroom cabinet if you have one?
Taken off to wash your hands 🤔

I also often put small jewellery in my purse. I don't use cash much so it can be a couple of weeks before I find it. I also have a little trinket box near my computer and sometimes put jewellery in there.

I found my keys after 2 weeks in the greenhouse.

I lost a valuable ring years ago, I found it months later when I found I had put it in a high heeled shoe for safety ...
