Those presents seem ideal kitty. I hope Mr L has a great day and you all enjoy the celebrations to come.
Is this behaviour appropriate.
how are schools handling students who memorize books but can't actually decode
DH is 80 in a month or so. I have his main present sorted but does any one have any ideas for lovely, or fun, extras please.

Take him out to a special tea? One that consists of everything under the sun (scones, sandwiches, little cakes, biscuits etc etc). Always a huge treat I reckon!
We had a gift of afternoon tea at Marco Pierre White’s restaurant in Birmingham for our 60th anniversary, it was absolutely lovely. We also received a hamper of gifts from Betty’s Tearooms which was well received, I believe you can choose the contents.
There have been some great suggestions here, thank you.
My plans went a bit pear shaped as DH had said he was going to stop volunteering 2 days a week and i wanted to find him something to fill the time.
So, I came up with Art Lessons.as he can draw well and appreciates art. One to one art lessons seemed nearly impossible to find and then he announced that he was going to continue volunteering.
So, I have bought him lots of silly little presents - a jigsaw of Leiceztershire, a posh water bottle, a Forest cushion, a mug, t shirts etc and we are having a bash for him next week.
His birthday is tomorrow so it's too late now!!!

My DH is also 80 in a couple of weeks, but he had a brain haemorrhage in Feb this year and is now hemiplegic. Also put on a bit of weight, so chocolate etc out! Some lovely ideas for Kittylester, any suggestions from partners of stroke victims? Don't want to hijack the thread through.
So sorry B9 that your DH has suffered this. I can attest the benefits of art as a hobby. It’s not just the results but the total absorption which is so therapeutic. It would make a lovely extra present for anyone. There are boxes of acrylic paints which are used with water and not too messy. A couple of brushes suitable for acrylics as they must be quite firm. Then a couple of cheap canvases or cartridge paper. Plenty of help in how to do it available on utub or in books. Loads of choice. Amazon might well supply something and you can see the cost and compare. Cartridge paper, pencils.I do hope your dh progresses well. My SIL had a brain bleed and lost his vision for a few days. That was about ten years ago but recovered well and leads a perfectly normal life.

For my DH’s 80th I arranged an airb&b in Dorset for all the family. He loved it. I reckoned we had enough stuff!
One of my sister's DAC did the same for her big birthday, her children, their partners and grandchildren - they needed a biggish house!
My husbands just had his birthday in July what did I buy him NOTHING, now why would that be, he never buys me or the children anything. I had my 80th birthday last year NOTHING.
One Christmas years ago when my mother was living she said to me after all the presents had been given out "you've not received a present, his answer was I didn't have the time.
Thank goodness I was buying for the children. My daughter always says if it was up to dad they wouldn't have received anything for Christmas or Birthdays.
New Nottingham Forest replica shirt with his name on the back
Tour of the Nottingham Forest Stadium
Subscription to a music app
Cordless headphones to listen to his jazz
RosieandherMaw, I would love to receive a bouquet a month for my birthday, but it's never going to happen.
Nothing unusual however, an amazing High Tea at the Hotel Dorcester - London.
It is true elegance ..
I would vote lego, some really good sets
Not for a DH but an idea fir any female rellie or friend celebrating a BIG birthday.
One of my nicest Christmas presents a couple of years ago was 6 months worth (12 also available) of a Bloom&Wild bouquet a month- one SIL who knew what side his bread was buttered!
The Birmingham Jazz Festival is on 18th to 27th July (I think). Always lovely on sunny days. Lots of music in the streets and venues.
I’d forgotten until I read your post dragonfly that we did something similar as an extra celebration a couple of months after Mr C’s winter birthday. A large house, the family came for a long weekend, we stayed another few days - to recover. Mr C was in his element, loved every minute, as did I.

Perhaps I am just soppy but for my last birthday I asked the daughters for framed photographs of each little family which I have hung in an (artistic) cluster on the stairs.
The Harry Potter Studio Tour is good fun, he might enjoy going with the GC (and some AC helpers) - beware the gift shop at the end though! £££ Credit card warning.
I should also say that DH goes as DS1's carer so gets a free place. They share the cost.

Is there such a thing as a hospitaluty lounge viewing area at his favourite football team? Perhaps a subscription or a one off for him to attend a game There are plenty mugs online for inscribing with 80, date of birth, and name even wine glass if he's a wine drinker.
As DS1 is disabled, he and DH have seats in the corporate area at the football. It is the only place inside that is available.

Wentworth make lovely wooden laser cut jigsaws with special Whimsey shapes .
You can do some lovely memory books, "This is my life' on-line, get one you can do together. ours is a Klutz version. I did one which I stuck photos in from the day my husband was born right the way through to his 6 months stroke stay in hospital and enablement. I would consult him along the way, colour in where required with him choosing the colours and I would write under the photos, it has been wonderful through the years with sitters and visitors. I treasure it now 10 years after my husband's death. It includes marriage, children hobbies, work, retirement and finally the stroke journey. Hope you manage to have a good life together despite your husbands strokes I cared for mine for 11 years. He was totally paralysed and wheelchair bound, but I would not change those 11 years for the world, where I totally learned to slow down and live in the now.

DH was 80 last month and he always says he doesn’t want anything. so our youngest grandson decided to buy him a miniature strawberry plant, which has given DH such pleasure. Each time a small strawberry is ready for picking he sends a photo to our grandson.😀
A smart watch which registers steps, sleep quality etc. you can also get them to register falls and call emergency services. Am thinking about getting them for both of us in the foreseeable future.
I agree with cornergran. I have never watched a Harry Potter film or read the book but we took our granddaughter and her friend to the Studios as few years ago. Wow. What am experience. I was enthralled.
