Not a meal at home unless you want to cook and wash up but that doesn't really give you a break from the usual,
Could you go somewhere for a night of two, it doesn't have to be far. Perhaps A coach trip , trip to the seaside and have fish & chips or ice cream?
A visit to a stately/NT home and park especially one that may have a sensory garden.
What did you do on your first date, could you recreate that .

I’ve gifted this to several of my whisky loving friends over the years and it has always been well received.

Late DH and I only made it to almost 52 years so enjoy every single minute whatever you do.

Only you know what your husband likes/enjoys the most. A special meal at home, or at a restaurant of his choice, with fragrant candles, flowers and music with his favourite people to share this very special occasion. Many congratulations on your 56th Wedding Anniversary. Enjoy yourselves! ♥️💐🥃🎶

After 57years of marriage the present I love most is when my husband and sometimes my daughter give my two greenhouses a thorough clean out. I love to have them clean and tidy again after I have spent a lot of time working in them. it is such a treat and I appreciate that more than anything.

My daughter bought me one of these for Mother’s Day and I love it.

It doesn’t have to be near a socket (no trailing wires) . It has 3 levels of brightness so if he needs a bit extra to see he can use the brightest one.

I have mine on dim for just a nice touch of atmosphere when the TV is on.

Cath9

I have just worked out that you got married the same year as myself and my late husband. My husband was then 23rd of age, you can keep guessing my age!

... but surely you are, like me, just 39.

Just a nice crystal whisky glass?
Or one of these?

... or inscribed

Not sure where you live, but what about a whiskey or wine tasting experience. Something you can do together and many times food is involved too. Well done for reaching 56 years ❤️

It’s our 56 th next week too. Can’t believe how the years have gone by. We don’t plan to do anything and no longer do gifts but hopefully we may go out for a meal.
Congratulations to you both. Well done. 👏

As you have received messages from what I would advice this is to wish you both the very best congratulations especially during our generation when there were quite a lot of divorces or deaths.

knspol Tue 15-Jul-25 14:17:34

Forgot to say CONGRATULATIONS!

Maybe a short trip to London to hear some music eg Covent Garden or the Royal Opera House? A night in a really nice hotel on top might be enjoyable.

If you like gardening or even just have a patio, plant some herbs and flowers that are well scented. Your husband does not have to see to enjoy them, if his sense of smell is still reasonably intact.

Enjoy your anniversary - you have done well making it this far, and I hope you will both enjoy a lot more.

Cook do meal boxes at Chrustmas - if they do the year round you could buy one that both of you could enjoy.

Or some restaurants round here deliver meals.

Judy54 Mon 14-Jul-25 17:25:08

Yes I agree a favourite meal at home or perhaps a visit to a lovely restaurant where you can both spoil yourselves. Happy Anniversary flowers

Does your husband enjoy listening to music?
A DVD, or an outing to a performance if you have a venue nearby?

Redhead56 Mon 14-Jul-25 00:10:40

It’s not special like a Diamond one but having made it this far I’d like to acknowledge it.
DH loves whiskey and wine but we’ve been gifted a lot recently . He’s losing his sight so no books films or pictures as it would just make it worse. He’s being incredibly brave but it’s breaking my heart to see him like this so I want to put a good face on things. My mind is a blank. He has Audible which he has a love hate relationship with.
