Thanks everyone. The ferrule is on so tightly so I can't get it off. But Ashcombe I think that you are right. Time to replace it. They may be able to do it at Timpson's for me.

Ask at your local library. Some areas have people who come and replace them e.g. www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/residents/libraries-leisure-culture/libraries/advice-and-support/libraries-and-wellbeing/free-walking-aid-rubber-stoppers

Walking sticks are not expensive.

silicone spray

I've always found Timpsons staff to be helpful and they do sell ferrules so I'm sure they'd happily replace yours.

Hi everyone, peanut butter rubbed in to chewing gum will dissolve it. Then it can be washed away. This works with chewing gum stuck in hair too

Oh, I didn't know, Iamaz

Not that I like chewing gum, so if we do go there I shan't be taking any with me 😀

@Allira
It is no longer banned in Singapore and hasn’t been for many years.

It's bad outside hospitals, where there used to be heaps of cigarette ends, pavements are now covered in gum.

Allira Tue 22-Jul-25 21:24:50

Follow Singapore law!

Yes, freezing will remove it.

Time the government banned this horrible stuff. Or gave out hefty fines to people who choose to spit it out.
Our towns new pavements are covered with it.

Rub it with an ice cube until frozen, then pick off.

WD40 gets it off mats but might work for you

Will the ferrule come off easily? If so put it in the freezer & then the chewing gum should easily peel off.

Can anyone tell me a good way of getting rid of chewing gum? I have it in a weird place! The ferrule of my walking stick. As I use it outside and in my home the chewing gum has picked up all sorts of extraneous rubbish and I just don't like.
