My aunt really had a thing about anything green . She thought it was really unlucky .

Elowen33 Sun 27-Jul-25 18:54:01

Green is my favourite colour, I wear it often.

M0nica Sun 27-Jul-25 18:43:09

I cannot say that I have thought of any colour as lucky or unlucky. Green is DD's favourite colour.

I used not be able to wear it as my skin was so colourless, but since the introduction of blusher it isn't the problem it was.

I was out today choosing green paint for several rooms in our new home,

🤔

Thank you for your comments. I loved reading your different thoughts .I may be brave and buy something green.

Green is the colour of hope.

I love green. I have green almost everything even a green kettle and toaster. It's very therapeutic colour to live with.

Iam64 I had two adult bridesmaids - same floaty dresses, one pale grey and one pale green.
They did look great - and none of us thought "no green to a wedding".

My mother actually made a stunning green swing coat and hat to wear to a different wedding when I was young. It was a very rich colour in the sort of green that's the green side of deep kingfisher/peacock.

I have heard of green being unlucky but it doesn't bother me. The bathroom walls are light sagey green and one of the bedrooms is as well, although that's about to be redone to lilac. I wear a lot of olive green as it suits me. I have hazel/green eyes and like GG13 they get very green when I'm angry or upset.

I have a green leather purse - according to the Chinese that's supposed to attract money but mine seems to let the money out 😄

I wear various shades of green, though not bottle green, probably because that was the colour of my school uniform and I’d had enough of wearing that shade by the time I left 😅.
It’s fascinating where some of these superstitions come from, isn’t it? Many have a connection to an event from the past, but others’ origins are more difficult to pin down.

ginny Sun 27-Jul-25 14:44:24

Just a superstition.
Green was my Mums favourite , not bottle green but lighter shades.
I had Apple green dresses for my bridesmaids almost 50 years ago.
My Aunt blamed me for having green dresses as their car broke down on the way home from our wedding !

Iam64 Sun 27-Jul-25 14:41:28

My mum was superstitious about green, I love it and wear nit but never at a wedding.

DamaskRose Sun 27-Jul-25 14:40:50

Lots of green in my house and my Mum’s favourite colour. Maybe because I’m
Irish but we’ve had no more “bad luck” than anybody else. 13 is my lucky number too!

Talking of Magpies:-

One for sorrow
Two for joy
Three for a girl
Four for a boy
Five for silver
Six for gold
Seven for a secret
Never to be told

Bukkie Sun 27-Jul-25 13:09:18

My Mum won't have red and white flowers in the same vase owing to the blood and bandages connection. One magpie means sorrow.

Bukkie Sun 27-Jul-25 13:06:46

My Mum is VERY superstitious. She says green is unlucky and won't have a green car, have green decor or wear green. She won't have anything in the house with birds on like curtains or bedding although she does believe a robin is a visiting loved one. She follows all the usual superstitions regarding the number 13, shoes on the table, umbrellas indoors, not washing blankets in May, dropped gloves, mirrors breaking. I am sure there are many more too that I have forgotten.

Cabowich Sun 27-Jul-25 12:53:14

I've just had my bathroom refurbished - the floor tiles feature green leaves and is gorgeous.

Double glazing has just been redone - Chartwell green frames

And kitchen will be partly green, too.

My favourite colour is lilac, which I'm saving for the bedroom, but green comes a close second. I've never thought of it as unlucky.

J52 Sun 27-Jul-25 12:49:46

Years ago our only green car caught fire. We’ve never had a green car since.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 27-Jul-25 12:47:50

I have blue/green eyes, which according to my family get greener when angry.

I do wear some light shades of green, but not darker ones like bottle green etc..

My first car was green, I had several bumps with stationary lampposts, fences and a brick wall, not sure if it was me being a young inexperienced driver or the colour…

Magenta8 Sun 27-Jul-25 12:44:46

There may be some connection with the Irish Rebellion of 1798, where supporters wore green and were 'put down' by the British troops.

Grannydaisy1 Sun 27-Jul-25 12:29:04

Just a thought, but I always think green is unlucky, not sure why. I love green but I don't wear it. I'm not superstitious with anything else. Is anyone else the same with green?
