Mine did too.

DWP invite people to claim their SP four months before their pension age with an invitation code.

That gives the department four months to deal with the admin required and pay the pension on time. Remember, it is paid four-weekly in arrear.

You do not say precisely when your husband reached SP age but if it was June and he only applied in May then he made his application too late for it to be dealt by his birthday.

Once paid, it will be backdated to his birthday.

He deferred his pension as he carried on working for another 3 years. He submitted his claim in mid May and the information he was initially given was that it would be paid within 5 weeks of his claim.

His birthday is November.

That does seem to be a long delay. DWP are notorious at this “fobbing off” malarkey. I’ve got a pension query being investigated and all I ever get told is ‘there’s a task on your record’!
They’re quick to give out UC though!!!

He may have left work at a different date when he qualified to start claiming a private or employer pension.

DH retired on his private pension years before he qualified for SP. He also has a third pension from a previous employer (which started at age 60)

His three pensions started at three different ages.

Submitting a formal complaint did the trick! Text message received today to say partner's claim has finally been processed. Now he just needs to wait for the payment to arrive.

Great news. They responded very quickly to his complaint!

It took almost three months before her first payment came through. Sadly, it seems to be quite common now. She kept calling weekly until someone finally escalated it. Definitely worth making a formal complaint.

DH will be pension age in January so I have checked and advised him to claim as soon as the invite letter arrives (gov.uk says 4 months prior) that gives them time to sort his claim. We are on a tight budget these days so he cannot mess about

I would also suggest that you send your letter recorded delivery, as they have to sign for it and then cannot say that they did not receive it or any other fobbing off . You get the confirmation that they have signed for it . You might send things on your laptop or whatever but the letter means that they cannot also claim problems with computers or any other flim flam that they might try. Check and Checkmate!

Glad I read this I will literally be swapping my state salary for my state pension. I will apply as soon as allowed.

Actually you can request to have your pension paid weekly, which is what I requested. Means I know I get my money every Wednesday rather than waiting a whole month.

I recently handled my brother's. They sent him notification well in advance and I put the claim in straight away. As he gets pension credits, I piled that in too, and that took a few weeks longer, but his pension came 4 weeks in arrears.

Mine took longer because I had a deferred pension too.

One point to note, the triple lock increase does not apply to deferred element

Have you ever tried to claim UC? If you think it is a quick process you would be completely wrong.

My DH's pension was lower than mine, but it is fast overtaking as he gets the new one.

He can also ask for it to be paid weekly, as I have done. Better in my bank than theirs...
