Spare Bed?

BHF can be rather picky about furniture, but if it’s clean and in good shape, they may take it. The Salvation Army are not so fussy.

As others have said do try a charity, somebody who cannot afford a new bed will be grateful it. Or free cycle.

We have a charity supporting families setting up after domestic abuse and giveaway sites on the local Facebook, beds in good condition always go.

Locally Emmaus and homeless charities are happy to have 'good' beds - single or other. Might be worth googling your local versions of these.

We gave away our spare single bed to a (local hospice) charity shop which sells furniture. They were very careful to check that it was completely clean, stain-free, and had the "fire safety" label, before they took it. I'm sure that if it had been less "perfect", we could still have given it away via a Freecyle/Freegle site. I've read that many children in the UK don't even have beds....

Nobody wanted the bed I was trying to give away on freecycle, it was a pine bed with a truckle bed underneath. You might do better with a charity, so long as there are no stains and a fire label is still present.

We recently gave away a single bed on Freecycle, there were about four people wanting it, I suppose it depends where you live.

The BHF will take your bed as long as it has a fire label.

I agree that the BHF and Salvation Army are your best bet, but if you are registered with Nextdoor, com, your local community group on FB, there maybe someone who would appreciate a clean, single bed.

Yes , the BHF will collect your bed.

Are you talking with mattress or without mattress?

Single beds can be £60 new.

Give Freecycle a go. With a photo.

The British Heart Foundation will come and collect it.
However, I don't know if this happens in all areas.
You could also contact The Salvation Army as they help many people set up homes.
It would be such a waste to take it to the tip.

Now that the GC are ‘grown up’ and no longer need to have sleepovers at our house, I feel that in our third bedroom, where GD used to sleep, I should get rid of the single bed and make more room for me to use as my own little sitting /tv room. I’ve had an easy chair in there for a while, but it’s a bit cramped.

We still have another bedroom with a double bed that guests (what guests, never have anyone) could use if needed.

What do I do with the single bed? Perfectly clean and usable, but who wants them? It grieves me to take it to the tip, especially when you read about single mums given a house but not a stick of furniture, and I know about Freecycle etc, but do single beds ‘go’?

Any advice?
