Our family call these essential 'home-when -it's-cold' trousers 'Hamster Trousers' as they look like the thigh shape tapering down to little ankles like hamsters' fluffy little legs. I find I need to alter the waist as I cannot stand tight waistbands. It's difficult as the elastic is integral to the waistband, sewn in with overlocking. Or I buy a larger size. All the companies that people have said are brilliant. I often buy stuff from George at Asda or Morrisons.

UMIPUBO Fleece Lined Joggers Pant... ]]

I've just bought these and am very pleased with them.
They're cosy with a good stretch, but they don't bag at the knees at all.
Even better I had to return my original order (Royal Mail pick up from home) and order a smaller size 🙂

I've ordered these and hope they fit. They advised me I need a size bigger based on my Internet history!

Damart sell warm trousers with elasticated waists, they are very good. Various colours, lots of sizes, and in three lengths.

In the colder months, I more or less live in my fleecy lined leggings which came from Tesco a couple of years ago. I really must try and get some more.

I was going to suggest Bon Marche too, theirs can look smart or casual, very versatile.

Robell and Bella di Notte both sell fleece lined trousers. Bella di Notte are very similar to Robell but cheaper.

I have some from Bon marche, very comfortable and warm only£16 and they have different lengths, which is good for me as most are too long

Try Rohan winter stretch bags. They are the warmest trousers ive ever worn.

Pepco at Poundland have various ones.
Assuming you are able to get out.
They are about 10 to 12 pounds.
Look for ones with gathered ankle or knitted ankle cuff.
This will be warmer.
Also look for another layer underneath and cosy socks.
Have you tried popcorn socks. Kind of bobbly. Very warm and comfortable.
But not long. Only just above the ankle. Hence need for another layer underneath.
Try not to sit for too long.
Put feet up and or wander about a bit as much as poss.
Good luck.

Thermal fleece lined, I should have said.

SparklyGrandma Sat 01-Nov-25 20:31:21

I wear fleece lined M&S stretch leggings under dresses and trousers.
Very warm and comfy but don’t restrict the legs in any way.

The Robell fleece lined trousers are comfortable and warm. The only downside for me is that they don’t have pockets.

Mamasperspective Sat 01-Nov-25 20:15:02

Get some fleece lined leggings to wear under a cosy jumper

Allira Sat 01-Nov-25 19:50:55

Mountain Warehouse, Robell, Cotton Traders all do fleecelined trousers.

Grannynannywanny Sat 01-Nov-25 19:35:20

In very cold weather I wear leggings under my regular trousers. Cosy and comfy but not too warm.

pipsqueak99 Sat 01-Nov-25 19:33:03

Cotton Traders have a lot of trousers with an elastic waist and some are fleece lined. I have been very pleased with the ones I bought from them.

Look for fleece lined joggers. M &S do them but there are lots around.

I got some from Bon Marche last year, nice and warm and a good price. I think you have to look under leisurewear or maybe search for joggers

As I'm not going out so much now my house feels cold which it never did before. Can anyone recommend nice winter weight trousers with an elastic waist? The last ones I got on line are only suitable for a warm summer day.
