As I'm not going out so much now my house feels cold which it never did before. Can anyone recommend nice winter weight trousers with an elastic waist? The last ones I got on line are only suitable for a warm summer day.

btw, anything under the M n s "Heatgen" range is absolutely superb and of course available online.

The ones I'm wearing right now are actually fleece PJ's from TU, costing £10.

(Their sizing is very generous, I actually have a pair of "small" on, but am a size 14) if you go online. suitable out and about for informal settings.

I've a navy pair for out and about and pink for around the house.

In very cold weather I wear leggings under my regular trousers. Cosy and comfy but not too warm.

I came on to say this. I also wear them under dresses with boots for church especially the fleece lined ones.

I have just ordered some fleece lined winter trousers from Lands End,

I went onto eBay and got a secondhand pair of salopettes (padded ski pants that people wear in the snow) that I wear over my regular trousers. Also, I bought a single electric blanket which I lay out on the sofa and sit on to watch TV (only costs pennies) and I do not have to put the heating on at all until it gets really cold.

A few years ago I saw some long Johns in a sports shop window, they were drastically reduced, (due to the colours I think) but they are so warm, made by Campri. You can wear them under normal trousers. I find them easier to wash than lined trousers which take ages to dry. Nobody knows I have bright pink, mauve etc. under my trousers ! when there is a biting wind my legs are warmer than the rest of me. I do miss BHS and Littlewoods on the high street who sold Thermals in 'underwear colours' cheaper than M&S.

I have bought from Chums and found the quality good

I've been wearing thick tights under my jeans for the past couple of weeks and they're so cosy!

I know they are not trousers but my daughter swears by these in the winter, when walking the dog.

They also do them in tights

I wear men's fleece lined track suit trousers, straight leg, not elastic ankles, indoors in winter. Comfy and warm. Can't find the ladies equivalent.

I had a small catalogue posted through my door last week, & on Page 17 there were three either cosy fleeced or thermal lined trousers with elasticated waists, you can shop online at CHUMS.CO.UK average price dependant on size is £30, I've not shopped with them , but was all for our age group, decent Boots & Nightwear too.

Primark. £8 with a matching top £6. or one with a warm hood at £8. You can't beat it. They come in fabulous colours, have pockets and well.....what is not to like.

Fleece lined joggers and tops from Amazon are what I sometimes wear. Super cosy

yogitree Mon 03-Nov-25 13:43:54

House of Bruar do nice moleskin ones. Pricey but cosy and you were able to get them online too last year if you're not in Scotland.

I got two pairs from Damart. Havnt worn them yet but I think they will be nice and warm. Good quality as well.

pably15 Mon 03-Nov-25 11:11:18

I always buy my trousers from Bonmarche too always a good fit...

Franbern Mon 03-Nov-25 09:02:45

I have a selection of fleece lined jogger bottoms in several different colours. Most have been purchased over the years from Damart. They last brilliantly, and with nice jumpers for tops can look really nice. When it is bitter cold, I wear leggings underneath them.

Davida1968 Sun 02-Nov-25 17:54:34

Sainsburys "Tu" range can be good. I've a few pairs from there.

Patsy70 Sun 02-Nov-25 15:50:14

Me too, Welbeck.

welbeck Sun 02-Nov-25 15:00:33

Don't see why that's surprising.
I have many items bought from Primark over 20 years ago.

Youngerthanspringtime Sun 02-Nov-25 14:21:57

Some may turn their noses up at Primark but they have some cosy staight leg and wide leg joggers . Obvious reasonable priced, surpisingly nice quality.

V3ra Sun 02-Nov-25 13:42:52

cyberjack the ones I'm replacing this year were from George at Asda

Charleygirl5 Sun 02-Nov-25 13:24:10

I had never bought from Bonmarche before, but last year I bought trousers and tops in the sale, and everything was perfect, especially the length of my wide-legged cosy trousers, length 31", I think mine cost £7! I will be first in the queue this year. They wash and dry perfectly.

V3ra Sun 02-Nov-25 12:57:27

I've ordered these and hope they fit. They advised me I need a size bigger based on my Internet history!

kircubbin2000 same here!
I ordered Large, returned them and ordered Medium, then returned them and am happy with the Small size 🙂

They've washed well at 30c/1200 spin, quick shake and hang up to dry.

The Amazon return, Royal Mail pick up from home option is very convenient.
There's an OS... number in the confirmation on your Amazon account which is the number on the return label the RM person brings with them, I write it on the parcel if I have more than one being picked up so I know which one is which.
