Hi, I am almost 60 and although I don’t have ‘wrinkly’ skin as such, my foundation is starting to look ‘cakey’. I wondered if anyone has any recommendations please? I like a ‘natural’ look and have seen advertisements on Instagram for ‘Il Makiage’ foundation that is supposed to look natural. Has anyone used it, and would you recommend? Thanks in advance.

Contrary to expectations, I’ve been using a ‘powder’ foundation. I’m 70 and have dry skin. I’ve found it doesn’t cake and I use concealer under the eyes and a tiny bit of blusher. I haven’t used the one you mention but I find all the liquid foundations seem to be much of a muchness. Actually after watching panorama about the amount of microplastics in products and how even ‘safe level’ items can accumulate in the body and are linked to ill health, I’m switching to other makes now and have started by replacing my mascara with one from green people. I’ll be looking into foundation soon.
Estée Lauder Futurist Hydra Rescue is marvellous. Suits my 72 yr old dryish skin. Great coverage but not heavy. Summer bonus is it has SPF 45. I’ve bought it in repeat - something that I seldom do with lotions and potions!
If you like a natural look then CC or BB cream should be enough. Put it on over a serum.
I really like Lumene CC cream. It's available from various online stores but is sometimes included in Boots' £10 Tuesday offers.
My daughter uses it too, and my sister recently bought it and is over the moon with how it looks.
My skin is light medium and I use the Medium shade, my daughter the one half a shade lighter and my sister, who always has a slight tan, bought Tan.
This is all so interesting. I have never really worn much makeup other than eye makeup until recent years. Now at 75 , although my skin is still quite good, I often look pale and the sun damage to my face shows up more . So I do now occasionally use the full primer, concealer, foundation and blusher. It helps a lot (I think 😁)
I have always just used No7, and find it really good for a dewy finish that stays put very well. I had never heard of most of the products you all mentioned here. Where did you all get to know about them? I have been finding out about them now online, and I fully intend to try out the Estée Lauder foundation in the New Year.
Thank you all for your information.
I too use Olay Total Effects 7in1 BB Face Cream, Fair To Medium, 50ml over all my other stuff in the spring, summer and early autumn including factor 50. I really like as it adds a little colour but is a cream but I use No 7 foundation in the winter.
Meant to say, it appears to have doubled in price.
I use Charlotte Tilbury tinted moisturiser and a light dusting of loose powder. And eyes of course. Looks very natural and only comes in one shade which seems to suit everyone. Pricey but lasts for ages.
I’m 69 and have been using Trinny London BFF which is lovely, it’s like putting a light syrum which covers enough and leave your skin looking lovely and fresh. I’ve also just ordered Jones Road what the foundation, haven’t used it yet but it’s got a lovely feel to it.
Book a session with a makeup adviser at Boots. I was using this, that, and the other basically from other folk's recommendations then someone suggested Boots. Have gone back after a couple of years just to keep up with changes. All very easy and the assistant was very helpful without skimming money.
I’ve tried many many different foundations, now in my 70s I’ve settled on cc cream in the summer and Clinique in the winter
Thank you so much for all the replies, some really helpful information! I’ve made a note of all the products and will see what suits me. Also I think I will pay a visit to Boots to see a make up consultant 😊
Tinted moisturiser is kinder, not heavy, with a spf in too. I use lipstick as blusher

I use a mineral ‘foundation’ just brush it on and it sort of morphs into the skin. Takes no time at all.
I can’t understand how anyone can buy any foundation on line for the first time. Even trying it on your hand doesn’t work. To get the correct shade you have (IMO) got to try on your face.Well, I have usually bought Clarins, this is a new lighter one and the number shade should have been the same but is lighter. Perhaps ok for the winter.
How can you try it on your face without going to a large Department store or a large Boots in a city? Ours has a very limited range.
You would have to go into a department store or salon but you would only need to go once. Get the right colour then you are sorted and you can replace it online.

Oh thank you, so how will I do that?
Anyway, having used shade 3 for years, then changed to Clinique for a while (also Shade 3) I find Clarins 3 is lighter than it used to be.
What does CC stand for?
I haven’t looked back since finding Garnier bb cream, it’s fabulous.
I use Elf primer, Beauty Pie eye concealer. Laura Mercier foundation, light with great coverage. Trinny London cream blusher or Jones road . And Jones road beauty balm on my eyes .
Beauty pie is great for serums and moisturisers . I haven’t chanced their makeup yet as it’s all online .
I use Guinot, not cheap but a little goes a long way and it lasts for ages. Lovely to use and seems to suit my skin depending on the coverage I require whether dewy I use a sponge or a bit heavier I use a foundation brush. I have pale skin in winter and tanned skin in summer. I don't know if it works on dark skin tho'.
I use Clinique CC cream. It covers well and is light.
I absolutely recommend Trinny's BFF. Skin looks so amazing and there is no hint of heavy foundation - literally just your skin but better! I am using Trinny for few years already and very satisfied. For cheaper alternative recommend Avon Sk!n Tinted Moisturiser which does pretty much similar thing for less £
Laura Geller mineral foundation and make up. Looks natural, doesn't settle into lines and makes your skin look 'fresh'.

I’d suggest cc cream, looks much better than foundation. Then a dab of rouge for a bit of a glow.
Another vote for CC cream, I tried it recently and love it, very light but covers well.

Obviously I have upset you. I am now presuming you are house bound.
I didn’t know, sorry.
I use Estée Lauder Complete Foundation ... its brilliant and goes on smoothly and does what it says on the tin !!!!
