New Improved" All Bran issue

I have been keeping regular daily with Muesli and All Bran for decades until this recent so called improvement when everything ground to a halt. A tin of prunes and a bag of the same fruit eventually shifted the 'backlog'. Is there a best alternative? I don't want to go through all that again.....

The 'new, improved' All Bran tastes like soggy cardboard. No one I've spoken to likes it, seems the only benefit is for the manufacturer as it's cheaper to produce.

Totally agree, have eaten AllBran for years and really liked the taste but cannot abide the new version. Really horrendous, think I didn't even finish my first bowl and threw the rest of the packet away. Definitely not buying any more, such a shame, a good source of fibre with little sugar content.

A GNetters recommended to me to eat an orange in the evening……..and it truly works. My medication bungs me dreadfully but the gentle persuasion of a fresh orange helps immensely.

I've given up on eating All Bran too, after decades of buying it. It just tastes like despair in a bowl! I've found Sainsburys own brand High Fibre Bran cereal is just about acceptable instead. I'd go back to All Bran in flash if they changed the recipe back. They might, Cauldron Sausages did, they changed their vegetarian sausage to a vegan one, and changed it back when no-one bought it!

Laxido has changed my life, for the better of course!

Try eating beetroot as a cooked vegetable (not pickled) every now and again, it is tasty and so good for the digestion.

I'm from a family with lots of Coeliac members and am gluten intolerant myself. I tend to swing between the opposite problem and constipation. Last year I ended up in A&E with constipation after all my normal remedies failed. The doctor recommended mango, so now I buy a little pot of prepared mango which lasts me a couple of days and is a nice treat too.
In general I find that eating wholegrain bread of various GF types is enough to keep me going!

Yes I was advised by a gastro consultant to try the psyllium husks. It is the equivalent of
fibrogel which burns my throat.

Me too.

Movicol has worked wonders for my husband since he had a bad “do”
Simple powder every day

Psyllium husk capsules - one a day is a useful addition.

I’ve started having a Chia pudding each day. I make it with stewed apples, Ceylon cinnamon, Greek yoghurt, maple syrup , blueberries, a splash of cocoa and flax seeds. I also have a kiwi fruit each evening. ( I’m a bit addicted to kiwi fruit at the moment).

Can I ask if anyone, having been prescribed laxatives by GP, managed to stop taking them but maintain regularity. And how did you do it?

I have a prescription for Fybogel, as the meds I have to take cause constipation. But I try not to use the Fybogel, preferring to use foodstuffs, like apricots, prunes, flaxseeds, etc.

Thank you for the replies.

I get a basic muesli just a Tesco own or similar then throw in all sorts. Chia seeds sunflower seeds flax seeds whatever is in the pantry and topped with fresh banana. As I am vegan i tend to have oat or soya milk and do not seem to have any blockages but did before this

I took them for three days, they've so vile there is no incentive to carry on taking them.

Prunes, dried pears, apricots, all dried fruits. Sprouts, baked beans and a dose of magnesium daily.

For occasional use, I think Milk of Magnesia is still available.

Flaxseeds and Kefir…..

Lathyrus3 Thu 04-Dec-25 08:41:55

Oatiflakes or porridge with added oat bran.

Oat bran is better than wheat bran anyway.

LucyAnna5 Thu 04-Dec-25 07:41:55

Dried apricots, pears, Fybogel sachets, flaxseeds……

teabagwoman Thu 04-Dec-25 07:30:31

I mix chia seeds and a few prunes with shredded wheat. I find a day drink of kefir also helps.

CabbageWars13 Thu 04-Dec-25 01:35:28

Get a bag of pumpkin & sunflower seeds from Sainsbury - a tablespoon of the stuff mixed in the daily muesli keeps things ticking over efficiently enough.
