I have a great fear that Russia will rubbish Ukraine’s latest ideas on stopping the war.

Lavrov said yesterday that the US/Trump had agreed to Russia taking Ukrainian land.

I don’t trust Trump an inch.

U.K. and Europe are full of talk but imo need to do more not just talk. We are already in danger of Putin coming after the U.K.

I despair 😩

I too despair. Everything is so awful. I want to be positive for my children and grandchildren but it’s difficult.

It is a dreadful situation, but Putin is not having it all his own way.
The Russians have lost so many troops, and citizens are not rushing to join the army. Remember they had to bring in those elite North Koreans? Made no difference. Now they are paying Cubans to sign up, and tricking Indian and African workers, who thought they were coming for civilian work, into being conscripted.
Russians are not flocking to the fight.

If we can’t persuade Belgium to release the Russian frozen assets, Russia will overrun Ukraine and then come for us!

CariadAgain Thu 18-Dec-25 18:49:25

I think it would be useful to have anyone that says "Russia will come for us" explain why they think that. That is not a given....

Why would Russia invade UK?

livelylady Sun 21-Dec-25 13:53:27

In Scotland there is nuclear submarine.
Luckily still here despite calls over the years to get rid.
If Putin tries anything he will find his door in Moscow a first target.
Sleep better now folks!

Right now, I suspect Russia no longer has the resources necessary to start any more wars.

If they do, or if Putin is mad enough to disregard the actual state of his country, he is more likely either to try to take Gotland and Borholm from Sweden and Denmark respectively to ensure Russia's continued access to and from St Petersborg, or invade some country that like Ukraine he regards as Russian; Lithuania, Latvia or Estonia for example.

Doing any of this would be tantamount to starting a war with NATO, but as we no longer can depend on America for support, Putin is unlikely to be bothered by that.

Like any Russian ruler he wants easy access for shipping, either through the Black Sea or the Baltic. Attacking the UK won't give him that.

NanKate Sun 21-Dec-25 15:40:57

Apologies if I have upset anyone. I wonder if Putin would be able to bomb us from Russia, not invade us. Let’s hope not.

I think what really worries me is that there was all this talk initially of the willing countries in Europe banding together, which sounded like a good idea to me, however this seems to have watered down somewhat recently.

Jojo1950 Sun 21-Dec-25 15:57:31

Maybe he could but it wouldn’t be sensible.!

Etoile2701 Sun 21-Dec-25 16:45:48

Thank you. That has lessened my despair.

....and I've been reading article earlier today re China having a sneaky eye on about one-third of Russian territory and hoping to do a "softly softly catchee monkey" takeover of it bit by bit - ie rather than fighting a war to get it. Sounded pretty logical to me - given they've grabbed for Tibet and keep trying to say it's not a country (though we all know it is) and they've got their eyes on Taiwan too.

So maybe Putin will be too busy keeping an eye on any sneaky tactics they get up to to quietly snaffle a bit of Russia for him to do any more downright war on other peoples countries...?? Ruefully remembering that - out of the various nationalities I had as lodgers back along - "quietly snaffling" was a tactic the worst lodgers of all had (ie the Chinese ones).....and goodness knows I had some bad ones amongst those lodgers generally....

I think you need a history lesson and also learn what NATO did even after Putins warning. You could also google Zelenskyy’s wealth and what he owns in America, oh and read about the multi billion pound complex they are building over there. Putin has said time and time again he has no interest in the U.K. and that the EU must have an interior motive by saying he has.

Aveline Wed 24-Dec-25 11:44:29

Europe's ulterior motive is to protect the borders of sovereign countries from depredation by Russia. Russia's promises are not worth the toilet paper they might as well be written on. Ukraine should join NATO asap.

Maremia Wed 24-Dec-25 13:54:29

If Russia has 'no interest' in the UK, why are all the Russian spy ships in our waters just now, in the same stretches where communication cables have been laid?

Aveline Wed 24-Dec-25 14:06:11

Oh yes. How long till we have Russian drones hovering over our airports messing up flights? How many cyber attacks originate in Russia?

Yes.

Stand together.
