Family board games

cant think of its proper name but there was a simple game with cards where there were three sets, a) the heads b)the body and c) the legs. The proper idea was that you dealt out some cards to everyone and then had a pile in the middle with one turned up. You then took it in turns to take either the turned up card, or one from the pack and then put down a card from your hand. Your aim was to make complete sets so that you had the butcher the baker etc., but we loved being totally silly with it and our idea was what was the silliest or funniest set you could make, so you could have a soldiers head, a ballerinas tutu, and some roller skates. etc etc. A paper version was just that you draw a head on a piece of paper, fold it over and pass it on for the body to be put on next and so forth. How about pic a sticks? needs a steady hand and you can have teams and score if you like.

More of a board game have you looked at any of the Euro games ? Carcassonne is one I think would be a possibility with a mixed group, where you are trying to make up cities and collect various rewards etc etc., so you could perhaps have an adult and a child sharing . It might be too difficult if none of you know the basic rules. Good old snakes and ladders can still be fun too. Hope you find something you can all enjoy.

My granddaughter who is six likes playing Ludo, it's a good old fashioned board game which isn't too complicated. Hope you enjoy your day.

We did a beetle drive this year- good fun and everyone could join in (ages ranged from 2 to 76). The two year old enjoyed rolling the dice!

We’ve played Do You Really Know Your family with three generations, great fun.

Jenga - great for all ages and very easy to learn.

We played Rapidough yesterday ages 7 to 77, you get pots of play dough and have to draw cards with a name of something you then fashion from the dough first one to guess wins, it’s very funny everyone loved it.

We have a home made snakes and ladders and played it with DS2 and family on Sunday (when we had our 'pre Christmas'). The littlest, aged 6 howled like anything if anyone overtook him but in the end he won. The point of these games is to teach them to cope with life's ups and downs. We didn't have enough counters so he had an Oxo cube as his counter, which he thought was hilarious.

Qwirkle is good and Mexican Trains.

Who’s in the bag is good game for several generations. You have teams and take turns to describe people or persons written on a card . There are easy options for children . It’s like charades

Still love Cluedo in our family. We have two GC aged 8 and 13 and they can pit their wits against the adults once they have grasped the basic rules. They also cottoned on pretty quickly to the fact that you can mislead others with cards you already hold

Another favourite is an old card game - Newmarket. Rules are very simple and easy to grasp for the younger ones.

As previously mentioned, Imposter on an App is good.
I also tbink good old Ludo suits everyone.

This year we played Sequence after our Christmas meal. You play in teams so any number of people. The rules are easy but it is a game of strategy so not just chance. We all liked it and we will play again. Herd Mentality is fun and does need much brain power.
