Pillow for possible sleep apnea

I think you can get them on Amazon but I would ask the advice of a dentist or doctor as there are so many kinds. They are only recommended for mild to moderate sleep apnea and as mine is severe I have to stick to my CPAP machine.

I have an adjustable dental splint for sleep apnoea supplied by the nhs after sleep studies . Works like a dream and if my husband mentions I’m snoring I can adjust it myself. My dentist is able to supply a similar one at a price!

Thanks for the advice Alison333. I have never heard of the travel version. I will certainly follow it up.

I bought a Japanese pillow. It is filled with buckwheat shells. They make a slight noise, so I overplayed it with a bit of fleece from an old hoody, which can't be noticed through a silk pillowcase I've also invested in.
It supports my head and more importantly, my neck in a straight line ALL night. I don't snore anymore and if him indoors' apnea ucks in, I pass it to him and it disappears! Another nice side effects is that when I sleep on my side it sort of cradles my face and I've noticed fewer creases on my face when I wake up, and my wrinkles seem smoother.

So pleased to hear you don’t have it NanKate. The CPAP machine is marvellous but it is a pain having to wear the mask every night and even more of a pain having to transport the machine and its attachments around every time you go on holiday or spend a night away from home.

My DH has sleep apnea and he recently discovered that you can buy a travel version. It is a bit pricey but it's so much easier to carry around.

The medical overnight test proved I don’t have it thankfully.

See your doctor. Only solution is a CPAP. Struggling on without is very bad for you.

I should have said I have had the proper test and they said I didn’t have sleep apnea, however my husband disagrees with them. I do occasionally make a gasp but never when I am sleeping in my side.

I think I need a new pillow.

It would be better to see a doctor, get a diagnosis and either use a CPAP machine or make any lifestyle changes the doctor recommends.

If you have sleep apnea it is bad for your heart health, alleviating some of its symptoms is not the way forward, treatment is.

I have a pillow full of buckwheat husks. It is quite heavy! Basically you can push the husks around into the shape you want which means you can create a position where your throat is not constricted. I have actually emptied some of the husks out into a bag to make it a little less full to suit me. I find it helps me.
