Am I on my own in having had enough of the Beckhams? There has been more than enough of them recently, airing their dirty linen in public. Now Channel 4 have a documentary Beckhams: Family at War Untold to go over it all again.
Can it stop, please?

Controversial I know, but I actually like the Beckhams, and I just don’t understand all the hate.

I like them too Maggiemaybe. They've had their ups and downs over the years like everyone else but I really don't understand the hate. Like all famous people they've lived their lives in public, sometimes their choice but not always. Whatever they do will always be wrong because it will always be seen as a publicity stunt.

As for VB's sullen face - speaking as someone who is forever being told 'smile, it may never happen' even when I am perfectly happy - very few people have naturally smiley faces. Lots of photos are taken of her when she's not aware of them so why should she always be smiling?

I don’t understand the problem, just ignore the publicity if you’re not interested.

Controversial I know, but I actually like the Beckhams, and I just don’t understand all the hate. He was an incredibly talented footballer and apart from one daft petulant flick of the foot at an opponent, a great role model to young players everywhere, unlike so many others. Like them or loathe them, the Spice Girls were massive in their day - I believe Victoria was the most famous one when they met. She’s apparently very well respected as a designer too. They do loads for charity.

I don’t bother with celebrity gossip, but I’m sorry to hear that they’re estranged from one of their sons. Nobody forces me to read all about it, or watch documentaries about them, and I don’t. I do wish them well though.

Why on earth is their media coverage being compared to that of a prolific sex trafficker and the vile men who used his services?

Don’t worry, I think the release of the new Epstein files has knocked them off the headlines!

Was I right or was I right!

I thought I wasn’t interested in the Beckhams either - but when I just heard that there was a programme about them, I feel strangely compelled to watch it, goodness knows why?! I know it’ll be an hour of my life that I’ll never get back, but never mind. What I can’t understand is why the story of pouty Victoria dancing “on” (God forbid!) her son Brooklyn (named after the place he was conceived!!!) at his wedding to whatsername Peltz has just surfaced - 2 years or so after the wedding? The Epstein files/Mandelson/Andrew M-Windsor definitely dominating the news now though.

Agreed.

Just move on. Nobody's forcing you to read, watch or listen to it are they ?

I do hope so.

I have heard more than enough of the Beckhans, and its worse because I know nothing about their dramas.

That's exactly why I decided to watch " Beckhams: Family at War Untold ".

Which was horribly fascinating. I still don't give a fig about the Beckhams , but they shed a serious light on the modern cult of celebrity, social media; unimaginable wealth as a curse.
Very thought provoking.

The Beckham's don't bother me at all. I don't read about them or watch TV programmes where they are featured.

Me too.
I've got nothing against them but I'm not interested in them either.

Quizzer Tue 03-Feb-26 17:39:36

I am not bothered by the Beckhams as I have no interest in them whatsoever.
I feel exactly the same about the Osbornes, the Kardashians and any other attention seeking family.

StoneofDestiny Tue 03-Feb-26 17:31:17

A super wealthy family with a whole PR organisation behind them, to promote what they want us to hear. Parading in expensive fancy outfits in public so the media can get their pictures to sell their newspapers. Occasionally a story escapes they don't want us to hear about and 'a close source' gets quoted, and so the soap opera goes on and on.

Just like the Royal Family really.

DrWatson Tue 03-Feb-26 17:18:13

Oh dear Sarnie, like lots of TV shows, nobody forces you at gunpoint to watch?

There are loads of channels, and we just watch a few, the vast majority are of no interest, so we don't bother. But of course someone somewhere likes them, life's far too short to worry about them?! We tend to record TV News, local & national, so we can zip through items like that?

Gummie Tue 03-Feb-26 17:14:24

Why don't you ignore it? Oh or maybe start a thread about them.

Jockytaff Tue 03-Feb-26 16:46:02

Sarnia - I'm baffled why anyone cares about these numpties.

HowVeryDareYou2 Tue 03-Feb-26 09:09:11

Some people seem to feature in the newspapers a lot -

The Beckhams, Adam Peaty and his new wife (a daughter of Gordon Ramsay), and Katie Price. I'm not interested in what any of them do.

Deedaa Mon 02-Feb-26 23:25:44

About 20 years ago the Daily Mail was running an anti Beckhams campaign. A friend of mine was working for them at the time so I knew that some of the stories in the Mail were completely untrue. It left me very cynical about stories about the Beckhams and similar celebrities.

Who are the Beckhams?

Well I think your user name is correct as you haven’t missed much 🤣

😁

I think he was a footballer.

Shelflife Mon 02-Feb-26 09:50:26

Not remotely interested in them !

dragonfly46 Mon 02-Feb-26 09:44:59

I think the whole business is incredibly sad and I wish the press would just leave them alone.

mae13 Mon 02-Feb-26 09:39:22

One of the Beckhams probably has a book/film/play/album coming out soon - hence the flurry of manufactured publicity.

M0nica Mon 02-Feb-26 09:36:05

I have not been able to avoid the headlines, but I have not read a single article about this lot and on one day we did not buy our usual papers because they were on the front page of every paper.I have also avoided all news items online.

It is possible to ignore them. Eventually the algorthm that decides what comes up on your screen, doesn't include anything about them because you are clearly not interested.

I don’t think your voice will be heard Sarnia and to be truthful by starting yet another thread you are doing exactly what you are complaining of Why not complain in one already running ?

Great point!
