It's almost always bots that have found the thread on the basis of keywords and posted a link advertising something -however tenuously - related to the topic.

They override the warning that says "are you sure you want to contribute to this old/obsolete conversation?"

If you scroll to the end of the thread you will find a deleted message and one saying "reported". (If you haven't already noticed the date and/or wondered about some posters popping up who have long left Grananet)

Sometimes, of course, the subject is timeless and it's perfectly OK to take up the discussion again.

Sometimes, the person who originally started a thread comes back many months later to add an update on their situation. That brings the post back onto the active list.

People often don't read through all/any of the responses on a thread before giving their own view on the original topic, so suddenly a whole string of new 'answers' quickly gets added to the 'old' thread.

Some are resurrected by spammers which bring them onto Active. Then others post without checking dates. Others are still relevant to people.

I noticed this morning, and I know it’s been happening for some time, that a random thread pops up that is considerably old, like several years sometimes.

How does this happen? Does a GNetter search through all the forum titles to find a thread that they consider worthy of resurrection?
