What do Gran’s, parents, carers, everyone (in the UK) call a little girl’s equivalent of a little boy’s willy these days?
I’ve asked my three DSs and two DD-i-Ls but I think they all said different things, and whatever they said went in one ear, out the other and didn’t register.
I don’t know when it’s likely to come up with one of my grandchildren but I want to be ready. Is there a name used generally these days that is as well accepted as ‘willy’?
What is amazing me is I don’t have any recall of a name for such (I am being coy, aren’t I ?!?!) when I was a little girl, and neither do my friends!

In the playground recently, I heard one of my little granddaughters tell her older sister, as she held herself in front after climbing off the seesaw, that she hurt her "vagina". Luckily they both smiled, so not serious, but it seemed quite a surprise to hear a girl of her age (9) using the correct terminology. Is that common nowadays? It was all willies and winkies etc, when I was growing up.

Beware all this is someone who has never posted before and is possibly looking for a bit of a thrill.

Must admit I can't think of any situation where a grandparent would need to know this

Stop this conversation now if you want. I am serious. It's just got more complicated for me recently with 5 grandchildren 2mths to 9 years and four nephews/nieces 7 to 11 years and a big family holidays this year. I'm sorry if I worried anyone.

We always said "crotch".

Use the correct anatomical words. Vulva and Vagina. Teach both boys and girls the correct words to protect them and give them the vocabulary to protect themselves. Don’t teach them to be uncomfortable talking about body parts.

Absolutely. What do people call their elbow? their knee? their wrists, hands, fingers, ears, noses, mouths, etc. ?
Really do not understand this question at all. Use the correct names for all body parts.

I like 'winky' and 'fu fu' and 'lilly' and 'twinkle' is ok, but are any in common use like willy?

Surely we are talking defaecation not sexual parts. In which case, you talk about the bladder.

I too, am of the call spade a spade brigade, bladder, vagina, anus, generically called 'bottom'

M0nica
Are you suggesting that defecation is from the bladder? Surely that would be urination, and we defecate from our bowels.

I used to work with a woman who called it her 'possible'. When she was a child they didn't have a bathroom so her mother would give her a bowl of water for washing. Her mother told her to wash as far down as possible, and then stand in the bowl and wash up as far as possible.

Primrose53 Thu 12-Feb-26 08:28:15

My nieces on one side called theirs a “winky”.

GrannieWalker Thu 12-Feb-26 08:23:50

I think it's generally accepted it's a wee and a poo . But a poo comes out of your bottom and a wee comes out of your Willy or ,,,,,,,,, ?????????

This is part of the problem ... why *Pleasebenice• would a little girl be talking about her vagina? Too many folk call vulva the wrong name (like I have been calling it 'mons'!!!! ) instead of vulva. In nursery Willy seems to be in more common use than penis, so I thought there'd be an equivalent for girls. I would still like there to be! Because I don't want to say 'vulva' to my grandsons or granddaughters. Am I really that weird?

NotSpaghetti wow! I always thought the vulva was part of the mons but now understand mons pubis is part of vulva. Thanks ! And I mean that, it's not something one is likely to become educated about on the average day!
But 'vulva' ... it's not lilting is it? Just as 'penis' isn't, maybe it should be 'Willy' and 'Wilhelmina' [laugh]

Gingster Thu 12-Feb-26 08:03:59

Dd having two older brothers with ‘Willy’s’, decided to call her parts ‘Lilly’. Quite cute I think.

Leelaylo Thu 12-Feb-26 08:03:19

I always encouraged my daughter to call it her vagina but for some unknown reason she always referred to it as her Fu Fu smile

Flippinheck Thu 12-Feb-26 07:53:39

My g’dtrs used private parts until they were around puberty when they started using the correct anatomical names. Their parents preferred this because the use of ‘private’ gently emphasised just that.

Doodledog Thu 12-Feb-26 07:49:50

OP, serious question- why does it need a euphemism?
