Strangers dancing in your living room?🤭 Sounds random, tell us more?
My parents were “party people”, my Dad worked very hard and was often working away, my mum worked part time and got on well with all the neighbours.
I’d often come in from school to find a neighbour or two enjoying a glass of wine or sherry, sitting in our kitchen gossiping.
When my dad, whom I adored, came home from business trips, he and my mother would trot up the road to the local Conservative club and when it closed would bring home whoever was still there and “party on” at home.
They had this huge radiogram encased in wood and a drinks cabinet. In the summer it would be in the garden, my Dad had a barbecue shipped to him from the USA in the 70’s, a big globe shaped jobie that not many others had at that time and he’d cook steaks, chicken, lamb chops and my mum would make huge salads and do jacket potato’s in her modern kitchen, with bright orange units and a big open hatch to the dining room.
I was an only child but always encouraged to bring friends home, sometimes my Dad would get us a bottle of Pomagne, or babysham, we thought we were very sophisticated.
It was a quirky and in ways quite neglectful childhood, but other than when my mum was very unwell and became quite unstable and a bit aggressive, it was a happy time, full of laughter and people, sometimes “strangers”
