Seen on another site where no one could identify it. I vaguely remember seeing one in my grans house.

Try google lens if you want to find out what something is -it’s brilliant, you just take a photo within the app.
It says this is a skirt or hem marker used in sewing to mark the desired hemline of a skirt or dress - popular during the 1940s and 1950s and usually made of lightweight metal or brass.
