Flights no fuel!

Unless oil supply gets much worse I expect everyone to get to their destination, with so many scheduled fights being cancelled, it's bound to cause rescheduling.

All airlines will have fuel bought forward to cover most of their flights, the problem is the many oil producers and refineries are declaring "Force Majeure" - they cannot fulfill the contract because of gulf war. So oil has to be bought at market rate to fly

If the blockade continues for several/many months there will be shortages, some airlines, including Air France and Virgin have already applied fuel surcharges.

We've booked several summer flights as well.

I assume no surcharges will be applied.

I can't speak for flights, but we received a message from Brittany Ferries yesterday categorically stating that they would neither raise prices in the coming months nor make cancellations linked to the supply disruption of fuel. Phew!

Maybe contact your insurance provider (in writing) tanith and get an answer from them direct in this eventuality?

Or check your policy wording to see is and what isn’t covered?

Just shows how. massively overly dependent we have become on these Middle Eastern countries for nearly all our petroleum products..

Need to seriously think about alternative sources and supplies for the future.

Apparently Aviation fuel is akin to good old fashioned parafin.
As in the old advert ". Boom,boom Esso Blue""

I always book an ABTA /ATOL package holiday and l hope to go away in mid September to Greece.
Paid the deposit

But l am very reluctant and holding off,in booking anything. else at the moment.

So Ladies. Hope things get sorted soon,and that we can all get away.

Perhaps the fuel shortage will encourage less flying, reducing carbon footprints rather than just seeking alternative sources of oil.

We booked through Tui, but the flight is with easyJet.
They didn’t seem to know why the flight was altered- could be technical or some other reason (think same you TenKo) just hope it doesn’t get altered again.
Friend who works in the industry said they wouldn’t fly us out if they couldn’t fly us back.
Might affect flights further down the line though.

Our holiday is with Tui, but, when I asked why our flights had been altered, they said it could be that the plane might have engine trouble.
When I thought about it later on, we aren’t flying until next month surely it would be fixed by then if it was engine trouble 😳
I always thought at the time its got to do with Trump bombing Iran.

Tui might be consolidating flights due to possible fuel shortages . If planes aren’t full and there are several flights to a destination. They move passengers.

Although “engine trouble” is certainly a bit vague, TUI have a fleet of B787s (Dreamliners) which notoriously have had “engine trouble” since they rolled off the production line. Some get routinely either grounded or a long time spent on examining various engines’ performance.

War is generally excluded from insurance policies along with any associated risks so you may only be covered if you booked as a package, like with TUI

Tanith , I’m in your situation. Flights, hotel and car hire all booked separately, which I tend to do anyway . As it’s gives you more choice with accommodation.
Flights paid with credit card . Hotel has free cancellation until a certain time and booked through booking.com , as is the car hire .
I’m going early June , so 🤞.

Cars and ferries will be fine. Only 15% of their fuel comes from The Gulf.

What about fuel for the car? What happens if there is a shortage & you are stuck abroad?

My GS suggested I drive 😂 I won't be doing that anytime soon.

Already planning my overland route to northern Italy. Sounds more exciting than flying but possibly more exhausting.

We got a message on our DH phone, Saying major update about our flight ( just after bombing started).
So ‘hot footed’ down to the travel agency to see what was going on.
They said we could have a full refund, or book another holiday.
Management said they had already altered our flight for the next morning, same holiday.
We got refunded a nights accommodation after I stood my ground with them after the young lady said, same price 😳 now going on a very early flight which I hate.

Correct, though IF insurance purchased beforehand, then 'Act of God' wouldn't apply.

There was an article about this in The Times a couple of weeks ago. Basically you can only get a refund if you booked a package through an ABTA travel company, Your insurance might cover the hotel. I think it depends on your policy. Tbh it’s why we always try to book through a company. We were once stranded in Gran Canaria for 5 days but Tui put us in a hotel and paid all the bills.

Travel insurance very unlikely to pay out for your accommodation....this is why I always do booking.com and pay the day before with free cancellation up until then...not always possible tho perhaps in your case...sure you will go tho....they will pull all the random flights first that don't fill first ....I'm going carcassonne in June...thats never a full flight....but when I go Spain in July I know that will be a full flight
