What is you oldest item of clothing, handbags or shoes ?

Brown halter neck evening dress bought in 1974. Size 12 on the label, but having checked and compared with today's size 12s it would be an 8 I have kept it to remember the event and now just in case my GD wants to wear something from the olden days. There are gold high heel sandals to go with the dress.

I am still the same weight as when I married in 1968, but 2 inches shorter and a different shape.

I haven't either. It was a white courtelle minidress. After the wedding I wore it to parties and DS's christening, eventually it got all worn and dravelly and was thrown away.

I bet a lot of us still have our wedding dresses. Mine is red, from 1972, but only a size 10 - I’m not!
Otherwise a Burberry Mac bought in ‘89 which I hope (one of these days) to fit into again.

A cony fur coat bought in C&A in Wood Green, probably in the late 1960s.

Until I stopped working 3 years ago I was wearing a skirt my mum made for me in my late teens! That would be about 1970! No need to wear skirts now!

I still wear a cardigan I bought from Chelsea Girl in 1980, it washes well and still looks great. A pair of suede boots which my (late) dad treated me to in C&A in around 1987/8 and a dress from around the same time I think I got from Selfridges while shopping with my (late) mum 💕
We moved house a few years ago and I got rid of a few things which now I wish I’d kept, 1970s leather coat and jacket and a couple of floral skirts - my granddaughter would have loved them!

I have and still occasionally wear a long cardigan from M & S given to me at my son’s first Christmas. He’s now 55!
Also my wedding dress from 1969 which I don’t wear obviously, but my daughter did for her wedding in 2008.

A mac that I bought in Wallis in the early 80’s, still looks as good as new apart from the lining which has disintegrated.
I was much slimmer then so it’s a size 8 but as it’s a wrap around it still fits beautifully. Wallis were good quality then.

Black velvet maxi dress from when I was sixteen and met my husband. Now seventy and can still get into it. My granddaughter tried it on and declared “very goth gran”!

A silk Hobbs dress, bias cut and lovely blue and white. Can’t remember exactly when bought but I have photos of me wearing it in 1999. It still fits and I still love it!

Not me, but a lady I used to work with. Her mother had several sisters and the lady would, on the demise of her aunts, ask for the wardrobes that were to be given to charity. She wore to work suits from the 1940s, velvet, satin, and they were beautifully made. She also had twinsets, blouses, and coats. She looked lovely.

It would have to be my three pencil suit skirts which really suit me. I wear them at selected times. The current long, wide skirts don't suit me at all. They are 20 years old.

When I go to Glynebourne, and we haven't been for several years. It used to be an annual treat. I wear the beautiful embroidered evening coat my mother bought in Hong Kong in the early 1950s and carry her embroidered evening bag dating to the same period.

Then there is the shawl I knitted around 1970, rose pink, and all the rage then and wore over my floral dreamy dress. It has lived under my pillow for the last 65 years and gets wrapped around me on winter evenings when I sit up in bed to read a book (as distinct from hiding under the duvet with my Kindle).

I also have a great big red handbag, fake fur with red plastic parts, one big main zip section, and one popper section on either side. I found it on a stall in an indoor shopping area in 2007 when I was 41. Cost £20.00, and I still use it to this day.

A bit of the plastic on the handles is rough, but other than that, it's still in perfect condition!

A brown tweed coat-my warmest.It dates back to 1980 .
I'm not throwing it out nor donating it as it still gets a lot of wear .
A friend has hinted about having it a couple of times.

I have just cleared that book out of my collection.

I bought the paperback of Arthur C Clarke's Mysterious World in 1980 when I was 15 and still have it now! It cost me £4.50 from WH Smith.

I've read it several times over the years, and it's quite tatty, but I love it; it's come with me wherever I've moved too!

I have a calf length button through denim skirt, bought in 1974 from a denim shop in Sheffield during my first year at Teacher Training College there. I absolutely love it, and having recently lost weight, may wear it again this Autumn. ( The cheesecloth shirt bought with it has long worn out! ).

I also have a strappy vest top, also bought in Sheffield, from a department store on The Moor. Can't remember the name of the place. I had my ears pierced there ( away from home for the first time! ), and almost passed out when the time came to change the studs. I couldn't bear to push the post through my earlobe, and my Mum had to do it for me! What a wuss!

I still wear a pair of Scholl sandals - the ones made from wood, with a pale mushroom coloured wide leather strap across the front. They date from the late 60's/early 70's.

I had a pair of those but with a red leather strap in the same time period. Sadly mine are not still with me, don’t know where they went, but I do have a pair of ‘Jesus sandals’ in leather from the early ‘70 now I think about it, I found them when decluttering and they are leather so have aged ok, but me feet haven’t so I doubt I could wear them now

I have a shawl belonging to a great aunt that is over a hundred years old. I also have a 1930s fox fur that was my grandmothers. Of my own things I have my wedding and going away dress and a mini dress. Everything is wrapped in special paper and tucked away.

I took these shorts on holiday to France when my son was 6/7 he’s 50 next week I still wear them in the garden and they fit better now than they did. A bit thin around the backside but still decent enough.

Lucky you to be a bit thin round the backside..........
