Granddaughter delaying period, advice please

My daughter, 26, has had awful heart and painful periods since age 14. She has a particular pill no which she takes every day and has no periods.

It’s with both the support of her GP and a gynaecologist we ended up seeing privately as the two she saw on the NHS actuality rolls to “just put up with it”

Harley Street scans showed she also had endometriosis.

I had a similar experiences with extremely heavy periods as did my poor DM.

I would imagine your DGD will be absolutely fine.

However, after her holiday I would be pushing for more tests. Too many girls and women are “fobbed off”

This is such personal information as a gran I wouldn’t expect to be involved.
I had awful periods at that age and longer, I’ve read this kind of treatment is prescribed to help girls in exam time.

This sounds perfectly reasonable if it's been prescribed by the GP.

Blimey, Hithere, BlueBellGran hasn’t actually named her granddaughter! She asked a question because she is concerned….no need to be so critical!

I am glad she has that option and her vacation will not be spoilt.

I hope you have permission from your gd and her parents to post her private medical information on the public internet

Surely, if the gp has advised it that's good enough.

If this is regularly prescribed and does the job I imagine it will be extremely useful for your GD.
I always say there should be no reason for a young girl to suffer such pain and inconvenience, I had cramps from age 11 but nothing was available back then and I was just expected to put up with it.
I hope she enjoys her hols.

I'd not heard of Utovlan so Googled it and it is a brand name for norethisterone which I have heard of and taken. I was on it to stop heavy bleeding from a polyp while waiting for surgery to remove it.

I think it is probably quite commonly prescribed by GPs to delay periods.

I would expect her doctor to go through that with her, is she concerned?

Find the relevant NHS website for reliable information regarding the side effects. There will also be a leaflet with the drugs which will detail any side effects.

Put the name into a website and information comes up re the pros and cons. I'm not a medic so wouldn't want to offer any other advice.
