How are you all managing with this heat?
I fell asleep watching the box only to wake up in a pile of sweat so have been having a cold shower before hitting the pillow

I place a wet wipe on my forehead

Shel1951 Tue 14-Jul-26 23:16:55

I found a channel on YouTube with loads of old ideas , it have copied a few, cold water bottle for a start, putting my pillow case in the fridge for half an jour before bed ,etc
It is..... once upon a British time

We have 4 fans.
I broke beyond repair yesterday.
Pretty sure another one has lost quite a bit of power.

Got to the stage of borrowing from other people.
We have a baby and young children arriving here shortly.

You can next day delivery from Amazon and there are some fans available but check the size because lots of them are small ones for the desk. I bought a really good tower fan last month but they're out of stock with most fans.

Thank you.

We ended up getting fans from other people.
As it was, the baby only just managed.
Fans, unless expensive or small fans sold out.

Are you sure he's not a stone garden ornament JaneJudge?grin

MissAdventure Tue 14-Jul-26 14:41:13

Not sure about Jane's visitor, though
He looks like a gremlin. smile

MissAdventure Tue 14-Jul-26 14:38:34

I wish a strsy would adopt me.
I'd take it in and love it, and let it go out and about without worrying too much.

Poor cat. Is it selective breeding that cause it to be bald? Looking on the bright side, at least, it wont be hyperventilating in this heatwave since it has no fur.

We had a cat burglar the other day. A beautiful long hair white cat with a collar, headbutting our locked cat flap and managed to break it into pieces.

Our cat died a few years ago, and this one seems determined to wiggle its way into our home.

It’s quite funny, although it took me an hour to replace the broken part of the cat flap.

MissAdventure Tue 14-Jul-26 13:36:27

Ooh yes!
Is it a sphynx (?)
One of those cats that are supposed to be bald?

Looks like he's keeping a watch, trying to work out a way to get in! grin

JaneJudge Tue 14-Jul-26 13:25:05

Can you see it?

MissAdventure Tue 14-Jul-26 11:30:42

The cat must be a real stray, I reckon, Jane?
I can't imagine an owner keeping an unneutered Tom as a pet for long.
Do you think he's old, or poorly?
How sad.
It must be unbearable for him being out in this heat.

JaneJudge Tue 14-Jul-26 10:21:05

Scribbles, the goldfinch is lovely smile

I'm intrigued by the bald cat.

I'm intrigued why it is allowed out of the house, especially in this heat It hasn't been neutered either...and my dog doesn't seem to know what it is, she just stares at it. I've convinced myself it is an alien sad

Sorry, kc&c but 🤣🤣🤣

A much better day today with a pleasant breeze. I have done a few chores that I couldn’t do last week in the heat. I need to do more before the heat returns, so why am I on here? Just lazy.

I'm catching up too, arthritis feels instantly much better now its cooler too.
I'd just taken a load off the washing line & puting the basket down noticed a crop of huge weeds so, feeling full of the joys of 'breezy' pull a load up and promptly tossed 'em in the washing basket . White floaty tops. Of course!

I think it is making the animals a bit skittish. I've had a bald cat trying to get in the house (the dog is taking absolutely no notice of it...) and then this morning a wagtail flew into the lounge

You may be right - someone I know was woken at 3am a couple of days ago by a young goldfinch flying around his bedroom.
With great presence of mind, he managed to take its photograph before he captured it by chucking a towel over it as it paused to rest on a shelf!
He then carried it back to the open window and sent it on its way.

Chestnut Mon 13-Jul-26 10:23:44

Well we're in the hottest part of the country and it's lovely and cool today with a completely overcast sky! That's in the Midlands. Absolute bliss. Now I really must get a few things done before it comes back.

Jaxjacky Mon 13-Jul-26 10:12:41

I’d be wondering where all these flies come from TheWeirdo we only get the odd one?

TheWeirdoAgain60 Mon 13-Jul-26 09:55:30

The first heatwave was bad enough, but 2 in a few days of each other wasn't a heatwave; it was harassment!

I'm not a human, just a permanent sweat pouddle!

Oscillating fans in every room apart from the shower room, cold showers, but most of the time I've had to sleep under the duvet, not on it, because of those awful buzzy flies that repeatedly dive bombed me, so my bed basically became a sauna!

Cold showers, extra cold drinks. Sucking ice cubes. Drinking cold water with orange juice added in, and tangerine segments added to that.

Apparently, there's another week or so of these awful monsters!

If you see a big woman on a sack barrow, being wheeled to Rossi by a petite little lady, you'll know I'm on my icecream jaunt. smile

It’s OK MissA I will drop the roof down on the car, tip you in via sack barrow, and drive you down to the seafront Rossi’s.

P.S. being on my fourth course of steroids in 7 months, I am not quite as petite as you remember. Think of the children’s toys weebles , I have a little round belly that wobbles like jelly 😹😹😹

I may be able to hobble, if it's not too far, then along to Rossi.

Have one of their sundaes. Devine 🥰 we had one a couple of days ago.
